From Who? Or, How to Decipher E-Mail Headers

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Many viruses forge headers on infected e-mails they send, making them appear to come from someone other than the actual victim. Spammers are also notorious for this, often forging the return address of legitimate, innocent businesses.

So how do you know where that annoying or dangerous e-mail came from? Here's a start. These pages have some good info on deciphering all the gobbledygook you see at the beginning of e-mails if you view the full headers.

Google's Directory lists many sites dedicated to helping people stem the flow of spam into their mailboxes. I can't vouch for all the companies/programs listed here, but there's enough to keep you busy reading for a while! http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/Clients/Mail/Windows/Tools/Anti_Spam/?tc=1

Here's one on how to view the headers using your e-mail program: http://spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html

Great job Kim! This sure took your mind off all the things going on. Anyone else find anything to pass along?
