This is Syringa josiflexa 'Bellicent' and, my goodness, it has got a beautiful scent!! It's softer and less formal looking than the common lilacs. It doesn't sucker either. very graceful.

Mmmmm about 7 at a guess, but i prune it quite severely some years. It flowered quite young.
Are they a tree that will grow in the south?
I really don't know bb, but it looks as if we're in similar zones - though that doesn't necessarily mean anything, being based on winter cold rather than summer heat.
