Come one, come all, to the Dave's Garden 1-year Birthday Party!
To help us celebrate a wonderful year, we are inviting each of you to join us
at our farm on August 10, 11, and 12th.
Guests are welcome to begin arriving at 2:00p.m. on Friday, August 10th.
Friday evening there will be a "Meeting Members" session with beverages and
snacks.
The real fun will begin bright and early Saturday morning with breakfast.
There will be activities throughout the day with talks and a Trade-fest in the
afternoon, so make sure you bring plenty of seeds and plants for trading!
Snacks and drinks will also be provided throughout the day. Lunch will be
served at noon. For dinner, we will have potluck with food provided by the
guests. Saturday night, there will be a bonfire, complete with s'mores and
roasting marshmellows.
Everyone is welcome to camp at the farm. We have 6 acres of level land that
will make an excellent campground. You will have access to a restroom at all
hours. If you do camp, please bring your own linens (sheets, blankets, towels,
ect.)
For those who would rather stay in a hotel:
The one that I recommend is Days Inn located 2 miles from our house, and located right off of the interstate. Their rates are:
$44.97 for a Queen bed
$53.00 for 2 Double beds
$47.00 for a King bed
The do allow pets- $10 deposit, which you will get back if there is no damage.
They do offer a discount rate, but the rate will depend on the number of people who sign up. I'll be talking to the manager tommorrow morning, so please don't make your reservations until then. The number is 865-986-2011.
Days Inn is a very basic motel. It is the newest one in the city (not saying much), the cleanest, and they offer the best rate. The others don't allow pets, and they don't offer group discounts. If you would like to stay in a nicer hotel, you will have to stay in Knoxville. You will have to drive at least 30 minutes to get to the farm if you choose Knoxville. Just email me if you are interested.
Pets are not encouraged on the farm, due to the safety of our gardens, other
pets, the food, and yourself. If you do choose to bring your pet, the pet must
be leashed, staked, or held at all time. This will be strictly enforced by Dave
and me.
To cover all of our costs, a charge of $15 per person is requested.
This will cover all of your food, beverages, and other costs involved.
Children under 10 are free.
Everyone bring your favorite dish for the potluck. We will have refridgerators
available to store them, and ovens to heat the food on Saturday.
We are also looking for volunteers to give talks and presentations on
Saturday. E-mail me if you are interested.
We ask that everyone planning to attend RSVP by May 10, and that your money
is received by June 10th, to give us ample time to plan the meals, and
accommadations.
We can't wait to see you here!!
Trish

Sounds fun but mid August is a busy time for us here in Ohio. We'll be sweatin' in the fields and markets daily at that point of the year.
I am envious of all who will be attending, unfortunately It is too far away for me.
Take lots of pictures folks so we can share in your fun....
August will be good for me. It's after the main selling season and before mums get going. ( Plus we're only 20 miles away.) Can't wait to see your gardens. Calalily
Please remember that we only bought this farm in December, and everything is brand new- so no big expectations, please :) :) ;)
Trish
I need to know about campgrounds. Are there any fairly close to you? (Private, state, National, etc.) Can you check that out for us please, Trish? Thanks. Things sound great and we are really looking forward to the event. I hope Lisa can really come all the way from Louisiana. She sounds like such a "fun" person and I really want to meet her as well as some of the other regulars I have grown to love when reading their posts. I just can't get the hang of the chat room though. I have a one-track mind which seem to get in the way when I try to communicate there. I do well to chew gum and walk at the same time. ha! Oh well! Thank goodness there are other great things to do at Dave's.
Elena, what a nice thing to say :) I am looking forward also to meeting you and all my friends. We will be there, the only thing that could/would keep us away is a hurricane. August/September are the busy months for those nasty things...Lisa
I look forward to meeting you Lisa. You are a real Sweetie Pie. Speaking of pie, I hope you can bring some of that good Cajan food with you. My Louisiana hubby would think he had died and gone to heaven if he could get some of that good Louisiana cooking again. Bring us some pralines or something you can make ahead of time. Folks on Dave's say that you are a great cook. Guess you are going to have to prove that to ME! YEAH!!! ha!
Elena, Pralines are a must! Will bring some of those babies with me. I also will bring other goodies. I am hoping to make a big pot of Jambalaya too! Lisa
Be sure to save him a couple of big spoonsfull of that Jambalaya. It won't be a problem getting him to go if that is going to be one of the goodies that will be there. ha!
I will tell him that there is going to be dessert of pralines. He will be "chomping at the bit" to get to go. You city folk probably won't understand that old expression but Lisa will, I can bet. Ellen
Hey Trish,
I noticed that you will have toilet access at all times-Great idea but I hope you will be renting chemical toliets or you have one heck of a big septic system. I have done a few big events out here at my farm in the past and after the first one I learned to rent the port a johns. Around here they rent them by the month so after the party you still get to use the thing (men seem to think this is great for some reason)
Hi Everybody,
I just talked with DH. By then, I should have transportation that will get me there and back! Yippeee!!!!!!! I'm so excited, I'll get to meet all of my wonderful friends here at DG! It will be like a family reunion without that aunt and uncle you really don't want to see. LOL!
I'm so happy!
Sharon
Sharon, we are going to have a ball. Looking forward to meeting you. I am learning to use the chat room by the way. It is slow but I think I will get it eventually. Hopefully.
Hi Elena,
I look forward to meeting you too! Glad you're learning the chat room. It's fun!!!
Sharon
Lisa, I and several others get together about 7:30ish central time in the chat room for coffee. We'll be there tomorrow morning. Join us!

Thanks Sharon, Can we bring hot chocolate instead of coffee or will Lisa try to take it away from me since we are both chocoholics? I am slow on the typing but am coming along a bit but I can at least say hi and "listen" to you guys.
Hot choclate, yummy! Sure, I'll bring the donuts!
See you there. I must go now and get a doughnut and some hot chocolate since you have made me hungry. Are you "for sure" coming to the August shindig at Dave's? I am really looking forward to it.

I wouldn't miss it!
This is too cool! Tennessee isn't too far from our neck of the woods! My hubby and I will probably make it, God willin' and the creek don't rise! ;o)
Sounds like _lots_ of fun! I'll be there for sure. :)
Trish... I plan to be there... will send $$, but where???
Bumping this back up to the top!
I still haven't heard from very many people yet.
Trish
Yeah, I thought we were going to have hundreds of people showing up! How many have RSVP'ed?
We need to make plans!!
Dave
Wish I could join the party but no can do! I hope all you attending have wireless laptops so you can visit those of us left here a DG while you are at Daves other garden!
I know you will all have agreat time and wish everyone a safe trip.
As of right now...count me in and hopefully nothing will prevent us from coming.
Needless to say..not much will stop me,but when you're in business for yourselves...every day is an adventure.
Hello and thanks!! I'm in the same boat - metaphorically - as Sheila - maybe we could use it??? Perhaps if I save very hard I could buy an oar???? So, next year.
This sounds a great deal of fun - and a fair amount of work. That food sounds absolutely lip-smacking terrific. Please please take some pics so we can all enjoy it.
Once again, thank you Trish and Dave.
Tim and Erin are planning to be there! We are in the process of working out the details. Please let us know what we can do to help!
Erin
Dave + Trish,
As much as I would luvvvvv to come, we've made plans already for the summer and our free time is very limited. I'm already looking forward to next year's garden party! Have a wonderful time and I know I'll be missing a great thing.
Trish
I RSVP'd! My gang will be there for sure. :)
How many people are coming so far?
Terri

Planning on being there! :)
if this is gonna be an annual event I can get sometime. I will also be prepared to give talks with my photographs (what else) and/or bat conservation. I'm a batman for those who haven't realised already.
Mark
Trish & Dave, how far are you from Sedalia, MO(or exactly where am I headed for)? I am thinking about this rather seriously. I would be the only one from our family coming as far as I know and would vehicle pool with others from the area if I come.
Leaflady, it's about 650 miles, according to Yahoo maps http://maps.yahoo.com/py/ddResults.py?Pyt=Tmap&tarname=&tardesc=&newname=&newdesc=&newHash=&newTHash=&tlt=&tln=&slt=&sln=&newFL=Use+Address+Below&newaddr=&newcsz=Sedalia%2C+MO&newcountry=us&newTFL=Use+Address+Below&newtaddr=&newtcsz=37771&newtcountry=us&Submit=Get+Directions .
Dave
Leaflady too bad we aren't in the same area, :( I'll be going it alone too unless some one else around here wants to go. But....it'll be fun! Can't wait! It's only 550 miles for me, I drive further than that to visit my family several times a year. :)
