I posted the question in Alpines a while ago and have had no responses, so I thought I would repeat my plea here.

My edelweiss is 4 years old and getting quite overcrowded. How, when, etc. should it be divided? I can find no information on the subject anywhere. Just how to plant it. Any experienced edelweiss dividers out there? Please? Pretty please? With edelweiss on top? :)

lupine, you may want to personally send an e-mail to maybe wintermoor or monika (she's usually in the Brug forum) they both live in Germany and may be able to know or can find more info for you as this flower comes from that region of the world :)

ok, found it in an old plant encyclopedia set..........says to carefully divide them in september but that's about all it says
