I know I'm dying for EVERYTHING! But what plant have you always wanted and either can't find or is way tooooo expensive.Ever go to a GH and see something you really, really, want, and then look at the price tag and slowly walk away?Look thru a catalog and absolutely fall in love ,then scroll down and see a 100 buck price tag? Or figure out that there is NO WAY you can keep it alive?
What Plant are you Dying for?
CC, I do that all the time!! DH and I were just talking yesterday about a blue potato bush. It's $50 at Home Depot. I would love a start of it, but that's above my limit(unless it's a brug or waterlily) I would love to find a white mandevilla laxa. I've heard it's fragrant.
I think the plant I would most like to have that fits your criteria is a black elephant ear I saw at Frank's. I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but it was charcoal gray, nearly black, with silver veins. The edges were very scalloped and the veins reminded me of a skeleon. A little tiny one in a four inch pot was about $40!!!
Wow, that's a lot for a little plant. Can you find out the name. I have a friend that I'll see in the fall that collects Elephant Ears and I might be able to trade something for it.
Cala, if you can't trade for the Mandy, Logee's has it in a 2-1/2 inch pot for $8.95. Kartuz has it for $6.50. Wow, this one is root hardy to 15 degrees. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I really would die for right now. Maybe because I'm getting sick of trying to get everything planted now. Will give it some thought though. I did kill my Chalice Vine and would like to have a Tecomma Stans. Can't get one to grow over 3 inches tall.
I want Xanthosoma sagittaefolium Variegatun.....very elusive and terribly expensive when I do find someone with it!!$150- $200 each pup. :-(
Thanks Brugie. I've printed out the order form for Kartuz and will have to scroll thru their catalog to see what I've missed. I tried to order from Logees, but I think their site was messed up the other night.
Part of Kartuz site, the part with brugs, won't come up for me tonight.
For me hmmmmmmm... there are a few, but the most wanted is the Hoya Multiflora (shootingstar)
I was drooling on a picture recently postet by deblynn
http://davesgarden.com/showforumphoto.php?imageid=11472
I'm a total Hoya nuts *LOL* have so many I still want but the multiflora is on my wish list since a few years.
I don't give up :-)
Id luv the green delphinium, bears breech, dutchmans pipe, witch hazel............the list goes on n on! ;]
a double pink brug. Or Rosa Traum brug, or the double white aurea brug that a certain brug company never sent me, or a double yellow brug.
tiG anything else???LOL :-)
nah, that ought to do it! OKAY, since you asked, Butterscotch is on my wish list :)
Rothkirch brug.
Passiflora xiikzodz. It's not even that pretty, but it just calls out to me---"judith...judith...judith..."
Brugie, I found Tecoma stans at Wal-Mart for about $6. I bought three that were sort of unhappy looking for half price, wish I had known you wanted one as I only needed two. But I do have some seed, as well as a piece that broke off, and if the piece roots, you can have it, or I will try to get one going for you from seed. I wanted that plant for several years and they were always about $15.
i forgot the glory bower/and the bleeding heart vine!!!!!!
Here is great site http://home.earthlink.net/~araceae/
They have some alocasias I want.
Aimee, thanks so much for the offer. Keep me in mind next spring when the plants come out at WalMart again. I'd be tickled to death to send you the price of the plant and the postage for one. Have never seen one in our neck of the woods. I think I still have some seeds left, so I'll probably try again. Maybe I should start now and by spring I might have one growing. :-)
Again, thanks.........S
I do not Know the name of the plant I want. I saw it in a magazine several years ago and lost the article. It looked like a tropical bird of paradise but was huge and the blooms were black and white! I keep searching for info on it but so far no luck :{
Actually two of them..Brunfelsia(Yesterday, today and tomorrow) plant, and the Thunbergia Grandiflora (Blue Sky) or as it is sometimes called the clock vine..Elaine
Brugie, do you want me to check when I'm there? They had others, just not at half price.
Aimee, I think I'll wait until next year. I've just about planted myself into a chair, permanently. My problem is that even with 3 acres, I've run out of room. Oh heck, if they have them reasonably priced, go for it. I'll just put it in a pot and SQUEEZE........email me so I'll know how much I owe you......and Thanks So Much!!
I want Cosmos atrosanguineum - I had ti last year, adn I loved it. It is just a great plant, and the scent is too cool =) Now my first chocolate asters have germinated, maybe I can use it as a substitute for chocolate cosmos if I don't find the cosmos this year. :} There are lots of other plants I would really like but - have to be happy with some of the rarer ones I have.
Shirley, you can always find room for JUST ONE MORE!
CC, I'm going to have to dig up more ground or slow down. I hate to dig up grass and I don't want to give up my vegie garden again. Just got it back from the flowers this year. I know I can squeeze one more plant on the front deck, that is if I keep the hibiscus from bushing too much. Can't wait to see the blooms on all of the plants. Might make me feel like all this work was worth it.
uh oh,is that how it starts?I was just checking out the veggie garden for room for the brugs.....I'll bet your yard looks awesome when it's all in bloom!
Don't know about my yard, but the vegie garden with about 30 brugs in it should have some color.
LOL brugie, I think I will use one of my raised beds for brugs too this year.
Uh oh, am I supposed to be organized with raised beds and all, now I am in trouble, I have just been putting things everywhere, not making nice neat places. Haphazard, sounds like my life right brugie??
Dee,
No organization here. I'm a "sticker". Stick it here or there or wherever it will fit. No rhyme or reason to anything. Just as long as it grow, blooms, and I like it. I have one raised bed and it is nothing but weeds right now. Can't seem to keep them out of it, so I just call it my wild flower bed. :-)
I am modest! Just breed a double shining blue Brug with a heavenly fragrance!
Isn't that getting close to the impossible? I'd love to see one too, but where do you start if there are no blue genes to begin with? Wish the Iochroma would cross with the brugs. Good luck with your quest for the blue brug....... :-)
Monika,
I believe if anyone is going to get a Blue Brug it's going to be you......any idea what it would take to get one?
No idea. But its my dream. I dont believe in a Mutation, it needs big fields of Brugmansia plants in the hope, to get one.
I think, it will be only possible in the test tube.
Whats the world without dreams, even impossible ones?
I would love a big blue brug too. I have the test tubes, just need a little practice, lol.
Brugie, I plant in neat beds. All ordered, a place for everything. I don't know if that's good or not because to find room for my brugs, I had to rearrange things. I sometimes wish I was a "sticker" then I wouldn't have the plants sitting around in pots while I plan where to put them.
Hey,I'm more realistic,I want a double purple brug,I know someone will figure out how to cross a dat with a brug!!!
Cala, I started out doing the neat thing, but when I kept getting plants after I thought I was finished, things went south.......I ended up with nice looking beds, but they weren't as organized. Last year I got rid of all the perennials from three beds that were 4-5 ft. wide by 50+ ft. long each. Now, that is vegie garden. So I basically have one U shaped bed in front of the garden with spots here and there. Might not have all the stuff I'd like to have, but more than I can take care of anymore. My planting is basically done now. I'm lovin' it too.
I would love more varietes of Ginger, a Pineapple Lily, some Plumeria...
scented tropicals!! Daylilies wouldn't ever get turned away either. I imagine that I have over 25 different ones, 16 were new last year. I am growing 6 brugs this year for the first time. They smell great. Cant wait for them to really get going.
My dream list includes: blooming-sized stephanotis vine, red brug, plumeria - oh, heck - just all the tropical blooming vines! I hope everyone gets their dream plants. Kay
