I'm killing everything!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

What is wrong with me ?I am killing everything!I thought I had gotten the hang of this rooting thing.I have killed all the cuttings I've gotten in trade.Calla just told me about that schults stuff but it was too late to save some really awesome cuttings.I'm trying it on Fuschias(I did root them before)I've been using perlite,in jars, with 1 inch of water in bottom, dipping in rooting hormone, cover with a plastic bag......I suck....I'm soooooo depressed.........

I know how you feel. thought I'd really progressed, and then this happens. Look, it just happened. what were they and maybe some of us have it and you can try again?
don't give up, just keep trying.

Is it possible that it is just too cool where you are trying to root them? Generally when something fails to root for me, there either wasn't enough moisture for the foliage or it was too cool for them to want to get going. Keep your chin up, there are a lot more cuttings out there. :)

They were on a table, bright ,but no direct sun ,in the livingroom.Should they have more heat?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, I've lost a few cuttings these last few weeks too, so don't feel bad. I always like to blame it on the weather!! I use vermiculite/sand mix or straight vermiculite and have the best results.
I'm packing something up today to send to you that should cheer you up. Let me know when it arrives and I'll tell you what it is.

I can root you some of the red(honeysuckle type), and the red/purple hanging, if you want some?? LMK

These things seem to happen to us in waves. Something I have never had a problem with will suddenly go south, but something I could never grow could just as easily begin to surprise me by thriving. I have tried for years to grow Rosa Montana, which is almost like a weed once it gets started and will cover a fence all by itself years after the house falls down. I have about half a dozen sprouted seeds in the ground, once again, and my fingers are firmly crossed. would you be interested in some leaves from a pink blooming Kalanchoe?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Actually I had decided to send these to you before I saw your post. I can't wait till you see what's in the bottom of the package.

i've got to say crestedchick that i completely understand how you feel. i have planted hundreds of seeds this spring and only a couple of varieties are surviving my sorry donkey tries. and i tried everything. LOL last year, my first year growing anything from seed i did good. had to give away to neighbors my extras. go get you. so now i'm trying to plant seeds outdoors. :) hoping i have more success. and to think i was trying to save money on my annuals and vegetable plants. i'll be out the next couple days trying to find the plants/veggies i want. LOL good luck, i'm sure you will succeed. debi

I am as disapointed as the rest of you. I had some mt. fuji mg seed sent to me. I planted all I had in a basket. kept them moist and only one sprouted. it got up about an inch and fell over. I tried pressing more soil around it to prop it up, but it wilted all the way down.:( Now my other plants are being attacked at night. going to get my flashlight and see what's going on after dark!

tig
when you are done with him send him my way

i must be really lucky with cuttings i just chop them off stick them in dirt and keep them realy wet for a bit no rooting hormone or nothing. "ducking now"

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

you better duck!!!I may not be able to root anything but I haven't missed a varmit yet!

lol

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

troy that is my method also. I think some time when we are trying to root things we fool around with it to much. I stick it in the ground or water and forget it for a few days. My problem is growing from seeds. They germinate and then just sit and watch the world go by and me looking and wanting them to grow so bad. I started using some liguid root starter and that seems to help.
