pineapple houseplant directions needed

I just bought a fresh pineapple, and I know a very attractive houseplant can be made by cutting off the top and planting it, but I need the exact directions if anyone has ever done this before. The pineapple isn't quite ripe yet so I can wait to hear for the directions before we cut it--even though my kids eye it longingly! :)
