Several years back I lined 2 fencelines with a variety of honeysuckle. Was wanting to see the fence covered but found only certain areas flourished. Those areas had partial shade and presently are blooming in abundance. Would it make sense to take cuttings and attempt again to replant the areas that failed or perhaps search for a better cover. Would appreciate info on growing from cuttings and methods! Not a green thumb here.
Is there any other fast grower I could use for the fenceline? Thanks so much!

Honeysuckle
Bob,
welcome to DG from the upper desert of S. Calif. :)!
here's a url about Honeysuckle care & cultivation ... http://www.thegardenhelper.com/honeysucklecare.html , http://www.botany.com/lonicera.html ... hth... ma vie
Thank you MaVie I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this site from the members to hyperlinks unfortunately I am not being very successful in locating everything. I will learn. Thanks so much for the assist!
Used to have a place in Yucca Valley years ago! Great getaway from the daily trials and tribulations of city life! Thanks again Bob
Ur very welcome Bob :D. just ask question, and we are here to assist! i do move around a lot to give a helping. if and when i can.
Hi Bob!! I'm sure the links must show the layering method. To tell the truth I had one that when it touched the soil would make roots within a blink of an eye!! Good luck!!
I think some honeysuckle cultivars are more vigorous than others. I have Dropmore Scarlet on one side of my porch ... and Gold Flame on the other side. The Dropmore has done beautiful and is covered with blooms every year. The Gold Flame looks pathetic - In fact, I think I might get rid of it. It's just not cutting the mustard.
Thank you Louisa and Poppysue. Wow, drop and grow would be a good method!
I will look for layering and investigate as presently layering to me is more blankets on a cold night! Hahaha!
There are many varieties I guess and perhaps my best bet is to identify what I have. The cost of 1 Gallon plants is reasonable but the amount of plants, vines, etc, here make it more interesting to think of producing rather than buying!
Outside my computer room I have a trellis on the west end of the Florida Room which has I believe coral honeysuckle. Red and tubular flowers. That was to attract the hummingbirds to their feeders. That area works fine. There are also 5 bird feeders outside to satisfy the woodpeckers, blue jays, red cardinals, titmouse's , cickadees and various other visitors from time to time.
My front fence has about a 30 foot section of honeysuckle with beautiful white flowers. I will try and photograph for a possible ID. BBQ room out back is lined with the same. Approximately 200 foot of front fencing is bare as all plantings died. That area is full sun. All I have read indicates honeysuckle likes full sun. The fact I did not prepare soil and the sandy Florida soil may have been my downfall.
Since finding this site and the friendly folks I am sure my luck will change as long as no one tires of my questions!
I will look up Drop More Scarlet and Gold Flame and identify. This learning is fun. My yard may yet look presentable! hahaha!
Thanks again my friends! Each answer I receive makes for more knowledge. Have a 120 gig hard drive and all goes there for future reference!
Bob
