Size of Brugmansias in 90l (25.5 Gallons) pots

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Monika the brugs are amazing in size and in the quantity of flowers!!! So how often should you be feeding the brugs? Thanks, Judy for bumping this thread up. Great information for a newbie.

If anyone needs a Bloom Booster, I'm the girl. I've got tons of it, hmmmm...maybe that's the answer...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Donna, I feed the brugs every third day. I use the same fertilizer for 15 years and have never switched to a different one.

I'm still confused. Exactly what do you use? A specific brand that is available over here? Gosh, I wish the U.S. would go metic, it's so much simpler once you learn it. Our money is metic, why not everything else?

Here is something that maybe useful for everyone. It's a metric converter.
Hope this can help for those who have metric troubles like me. LOL

I think, Peters Excel is the one that comes close to the brand (Hakaphos) I use.
Dott, the fertilizer 18+10+28 is a good formula but does it have Mg and any minors added?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Thanks Monika for the information. I know now I do have to fertilize more to get blooms. On the weekend I finally moved my brug seedlings and a couple of brugs I was given to the greenhouse. I sprayed everything with Messenger and watered with Mightly plant and I've noticed that I'm seeing new growth. I'm going to go out and find some fertilizer close to your specs.

What percentage of Mg do you recommend?
Here's what I've been using:

Tropical Delights Banana Fuel
Water Soluable plant food
15-5-30
Nitrogen -- 15%
11.25 Nitrate Nitrogen
3.75 Amoniacal Nitrogen
Phosphorous -- 5%
Soluable Potash -- 30%
Magnesium (Mg) -- 0.5%
Boron (B)--.01%
Copper (Cu) -- 0.01%
Iron (Fe) -- .03%
Manganese (Mn)-- .01%
Molybdenium (Mo) -- .00005%
Zinc (Zn) -- .01%

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Mg should be at least 2% but you can feed additional Mg by using Epsom salt. 1 table spoon of Epsim salt dissolved in 3 Gallons of water takes care of it.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

monika, I think I can get some Peter's Excel from a local garden center. How often do you fertilize?
I think we should come up with a new nickname for you - how about "Angel"?

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes Monika, the Mg .18% along with trace elements of copper, iron and zinc. I have been using it on all my tropicals.

I need to thank you also. I thought I had lost most of my brugs over the winter. I read your post on root rot and decided to check the roots of my brugs out and sure enough that was the problem. It was too late for most but I was able to salvage a few. Most importantly, I salvaged my Dr. Suesse which has sentimental value. He has been putting out green for a couple of weeks now and is filling his container up with nice white roots again. Thanks again for providing all the wonderful information.

Emily lucky you!!!!!!!!! I wish someone would just give me a GH WOW, how nice! I'm waiting on winning the lottery before I get one lol....or striking oil geesh!

I know I've said this before somewhere on another thread but I started putting some Epsom salt on my brugs and they are taking off like crazy!!!! It's unbelieveable how much different it made. OOps, I just saw where Monika just said that...lol but she's right, it works!

Monika, you are truly and angel walking on this earth. I've learned so much from all your posts. Thank you!

I was at Home Depot yesterday looking for a fertilizer with the middle number being lower than the other two. I saw only one and that was one that was recommended for Roses. There was a fertilizer called Bloom Booster but the middle number wasn't lower. Would this be a good one to use?

Monika, thank you so much for the advice. I'll be sure to add in epsom salts next time I feed.

Jule, GH? Greenhouse? I wish I had one! LOL. Do you know something I don't? ;)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL this won't be the first time I've done that LOL Geesh, I meant PG. *embarrassed* once again *sigh*

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

PG? I think the heat has left me somewhat brain dead. What is PG?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

PG is me..lol.

Ooops. That's too funny.

I bought some messenger at a local nursery yesterday and will spray it on them some time this weekend. I wonder how much brugs mind our hot, dry weather. I think our humidity is usually about 20% during the day and maybe 50% at night.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I've heard that Epsom Salt is good for tomatoes so I can see how it would work for Brugs. Will need to find mine - it's hiding around here somewhere.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol Karrie, look where you normally find the stuff you soak your feet. Comes in REAL handy for both :-)

It really does work!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

lol! It's been a very good long time since I've soaked in Epsom Salt! But very very good idea. Putting that on my to-do list as well! :-)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I recently received two Brugs from a mail order source; both plants looked very healthy. Now, all the leaves have developed opaque spots, which eventually melts away leaving a hole. I am so new to this plant and would appreciate any identifying help I can get as to the cause.

hi tusseemussee,

Why not start your own thread for this question ?

This way it will be in the correct place and you will probably get

more help when not posted as an off-topic here on this 4 year old thread .

Welcome to brugs and I wish you a garden full of beauty.
Shirley
