and some of my Gazania seedlings for this year

these are only about 3 weeks old which shows how fast they grow. everyone should grow these plants which flower non stop until the frosts kill 'em off. if you are lucky enough to live in a frost free area they grow like perennials.

mark, when will these bloom for you? did you keep them dark until they germinated? I didn't have good luck, but do have a couple of seeds left.

I grow them in plug trays until the get their first true leaves. They then get transferred to 3 inch pots and from here they will go into my tubs or the ground at the end of May or before depending who how far on they are. they will be in bloom long before they go outside. I would expect the first flowers in about 3 weeks time.

I dont exclude light but put a layer of vermiculite over the seeds.

tiG, don't ask me why but I planted some of these seeds and they germinated in like two days..They grew as if I had given them a booster shot of something. Couldn't believe it. Anyway, being the novice I am, I did cover them with a black trash bag just for the two days that it took to germinate them only bc I too, had read somewhere that you were supposed to do that. If mine do as well as I'm hoping, I'll save you seed. vic

Don't feel bad tiG, I can't grow them either.

Gazania's do not like to much water. it want to be kept on the dry side. believe me i learned the hard way before i was able to have them growing nicely.

i don't even bother gather their seeds. i just allow them to sort of blend into the soil when i water the gazania's once a week. the pick up and grew all to themselves. i don't think gazania is the plant to be needing any TLC. they seem to do better all to themselves. a very independent plant if i may add LOL!!!! they suppose to be draught loving plants.

OH how pretty.. Sure on my want list now.. anyone have extra seeds??
