FYI for last -minute tax filers about electronic filing

Sorry for the late notice, but I figure there must be a FEW of ya out there who have not filed your taxes yet!

Just an FYI for you all. If you have an adjusted gross income of $25,000 or less, you can file electronically for free at TurboTax Online (Quicken). http://www.quicken.com/freedom/ I did not know this until I did a relative's taxes for him online Saturday night.

Whether you pay or get to file for free, they have a great set-up which asks you questions just like a tax preparer would, and has you type information in off your various forms. Best thing is, the government looks at the electronic postmark of your tax return as the date it was received, even if there are errors on it which cause it to be rejected. If it is rejected, you have until April 20 to correct the errors and re-submit it.

Normally it costs something like $20 to file Federal and $13 to file State, but there is NO cost if you meet the income requirements.

I did it that way and I ended up paying more than I would have through our regular Turbo Tax site online. Grrrrrrr.
