An Open Letter to Morning Glory

I don't know how many email addresses you gleaned from Dave's Garden, and don't really care. But this is, by and large, a family-oriented group.

That disgusting and tasteless email you sent is a sure fire way to guarantee that I, for one, will _never_ visit your trading site.

Nobody has less use for Spike than me. But let's try and be a little adult, can we.

If you haven't received one, don't worry about it.

Suffice it to say it included a sexually explicit drawing and some rather smutty commentary.

Tasteless, to say the very least.

Brook - please E-mail me all the evidence you have. I can possibly catch this person.

To all those who received my reply to Morning Glory's e-mail, please know that I was well aware of who sent it. I replied to all because I did not know who among the recipients might have thought it funny and would perpetuate it and wanted everyone to know that I did not want to receive any more of that kind of e-mail.

Foxglove - I would have responded the same way. This E-mail was sent with everyone's E-mail address visible in the To: field.

I am furious that our members were spammed in this way.

This week I am changing some things on DG to avoid this kind of problem in the future.

I visit another site started by people who were banned from THS. Some of the posters there recieve porn daily. One of the posters reported her emails because it was child porn. I'm not sure of the details now, but I think she said they are investigating it. I wonder if "THS" is the common thread for all of this. I know some of the posters in THS are afraid the banned people will get THS site shut down.

Who or what is THS?

I don't know about other sites. But the problem has been taken care of here.

Dave has set things up a new way. Now, if you email somebody from Dave's Garden, you never get to see their email address. When the recipient gets it, he/she can respond or not.

Will this totally eliminate spamming? Probably not. But it sure goes a long way in that direction, by making it much harder for the spammer.

Thanks. I think it will go a long ways, at the very least. I will continue to monitor the site with vigilance, as I always have and always will.

I also rely on assistance from people like you - letting me know whenever they see something that is a bit wrong.

Dave, thanks for removing access to our email address. I belong to a Louisiana Garden site and we were all getting porn, etc. from "JohnDoe". So, be careful of any emails using that name. I suppose the filth peddlers will not stop, but hopefully we can take steps to alleviate some of it.

On another note, I particularly believe that folks on forums should not subject others to unacceptable language. Let's all prove that our vocabulary is higher than course talk.

That kind of stuff is never allowed here. Unacceptable profanity doesn't have a place here, nor does hate and other inappropriate content.

It's a fine line to walk, but I won't allow that kind of stuff in the forums.

i got some porn from a john Doe also last week.

BJ, Hi, I am the one from THS that reported the child porn. I never got an answer from Spike, one way or another to help. I didn't open it up, but someone else did, not knowing what it was. She then was kind enough to alert us on one forum at THS and she in turned was banned for warning us. Her thread was even pulled. I have never been banned, but after this episode I chose to leave. It is a sad day in America when someone can't warn someone else of something as bad as that. Something good has come out of it...Dave's new farm life forum, which I am convinced will bring in more good folks. And the real issue: I have also joined something called Cyberangels. They are a group that patrols the net busting child preditors. I find porn offensive, but child porn is beyond words.
