Monika - who should we write to to beg for your book to be published in English?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Write to:

E - Mail.

blv.verlag@blv.de or to the secretary of my lector:

volker.mangelsdorff@blv.de. which might even be better.

They informed me a few days ago, that my book is going into third edition. Liz, I am very proud. At amazon it has the highest rating of 5 stars. It is a bestseller among garden books - written by a housewife! I was visiting a garden fair at Frankfurt Palmengarten and looking through books and magazines at the stand. Several gardener were standing close by, talking about the new books. I neglected to look at mine ( I knew it and one of these man reached it over to me, asking, if I had seen it. It was in his opinion the best ever written about Brugmansia with very helpful cultivation tips and tricks and to believe it or not, written by a housewife. When I told him, that I am that housewife, the look on his face was undescribable. He excused himself many times but I said to him, that this was the greatest compliment, at least for me, someone ever made about my book. In no time, there were lots of people standing around me and I had to sign the book. I was so embarrased about this all, I am rather shy and do not like to stay in public. Liz, I hope you do not feel that I am prancing about this. Sometimes it gets me and I have to talk about it.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

FSH, TX

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, isn't fame great!! Just kidding...I would love to get a copy that you had signed too...even more so when you actually know the author.Book signings are kinda impersonal, but when you can interact with the author its so much better, Congrats on the new edition we will see if we can persuade your editors to redo the book in English.Keep up the good work.

:-)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Monika . . . thank you for sharing that personal moment in your life. I also hope that we will see your book published in english. I will definitely send emails and I hope others will do the same. It would be wonderful to read all the valuable and interesting information.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Wonderful story - just a housewife!! But the best brug housewife!! OK - everybody, we're all going to send the emails, right? And we're going to fan out to the other sites and get them to email as well? We REALLY NEED this book in english.

It's great in German too. As they say " A picture is worth a thousand words"

FSH, TX

I have this strange feeling its not going to be too much longer and I am going to have more German books. If I had seen pictures like that a few years ago I would have taken German as a second language.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I have just sent my email. So it will be translated by next week??? LOL

FSH, TX

Perhaps we could get both versions so we can use Monika's book as a primer to help teach German in the public schools ayy?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I felt like a lost child, standing there, asked to sign the books and dont knowing, what they expected me to write. My brain was completely blank and my DH just vanished from the scene when people started gathering around me. I am the author, he told me later, not he!

They want to know from me, if I want any changes done in the next edition. I have to do this next week and then I might find out, if your E-Mails will be effective.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks - Liz

I've sent my email. I could use the English one too. I'm still having trouble with some of the German, need Tonny to get back to helping me. LOL. I think he has a lot of other more important stuff to do now, like move in his house, build his garden etc. etc.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Monika is one of our own now. We have received so much pleasure from seeing her pictures and reading her posts. I want to be able to read her book - $@#@ it!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

You are so right Arlene, we ' housewifes ' are important, but many of us are still discriminated as just being 'housewifes'.

I will let you all know about the response of my publisher, when I call him next week. I am too really excited what he is going to say about your E-Mails.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Monika, We will all keep hoping your publisher says YES.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Sent my emails. Monika, I hope that your Publisher can see the potential benefits of publishing your book in English.

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

cristina - thank you especially! I appreciate it.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Some examples of the book went even to Japan. I wonder, what they will tell me next week about all your E - Mails.

Rapid City, SD(Zone 5b)

Just sent off the email encouraging them to publish in English. References really are scarce - I think they will find the translation to be very successful.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

sent mine too

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Just sent my begging letters as well. Hope they do it, Monika!! I want a copy I can read and had been thinking I'd have to learn German ~ this would save me the trouble! LOL!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

English has much in common with German. I think both languages are closely related. We speak a Low German ( these are the dialects of different regions) and a High German (everybody is supposed to understand). The dialect of Northern Germany (Hamburg etc.) has many words, which have the same means in english and is only pronounced a little bit different.
Where I am born, many french words are used in the dialect, Napoleon is greeting.....! But the bavarian dialect is a language for itself, only a bavarian is able to understand.
There are many jokes going around in Germany, when a Bavarian meets a Prussian and for many Bavarians, Germany ends where Bavaria (Bayern) begins.

I am really pleased about the interest you all have in my book. Thanks to all of you!

Interesting, Monika! My family had always known my Great-Grandfather Wall was from Germany, but a cousin recently narrowed it down to Bavaria. I guess many of his countrymen couldn't understand him when he spoke, then. Well, being from Texas with a sometimes thick Texas drawl, I'll bet I know how he must have felt. LOL!

Monika,we all joke about how different parts of the country talk. When I go down south I need a interperater(see,I can't spell either)I go to Fast food places and I cant understand them. And they are supposedly speakng English!!!I love it down there but they would pick me out as a Yankee in a second!!!So we know what your talking about.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

My email just went out.I hope they realize how large the market would be for an English version.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I sent out e-mail but it wouldn't let me send to the second address.Gunna try again...
