Last year was a FULL year, many many new-to-me plants, many NEW planting areas, and I was driven - the entire summer. The deer were close behind me, enjoying the banquet being prepared for them on my 5 acre parcel.
Eventually, I turned around and found I had a plant I could not identify - many new plantings and then subsequent transplantings due to INTENSE deer browsing caused me to lose track of the ID of the newbie. Once it was put into a safe zone in late September, (out of the reach of the deer) it resumed growth - and imagine my amazement to have pink flowers show up in Oct/Nov!!!
So - the next task was to figure out WHAT it was, as the flower was NOT familiar to me. My brother recommended use of Sunset's "Bulbs for all seasons", as having any lily type blooming this late in the season would help narrow it down ....and it did.
Without giving you the name of the plant yet, I want to give you this last piece of the puzzzle. Armed w/ a scientific name, I went to the Internet to learn what I could about this amazing creature. Using a search engine, it wasn't long before I had a "hit" - and without even looking at the details listed in the search engine, I clicked on it.
LOL - there it was - on Dave's Garden - in MY OWN FREAKING JOURNAL!!!!!!! I have had the biggest laugh at myself, and treasure that there WAS a series of days last spring when I was keeping up w/ that journal!!!
Now - as soon as I can find the photo I took of the bedraggled, struggling, surviving Kaffir Lily, Crimson Flag, Schizostylis coccinea, I will post it - or just wait until this fall and get a healthy looking display to photograph!!!!!
Yes, Dave, I do thank you for having this site and for providing such a valuable service.
What excessive planting causes....
will be looking forward to seeing.

I'm laughing and shaking my head at this!
Too funny, Wannadanc! :-)
Very funny. You provided me with a good chuckle, it sounds like something I would do, except that I haven't done anything with the journal.
