Calloway Gardens Spring Sale

Here is the link about the Calloway Gardens spring plant sale coming up. I remember Dee and some others are talking about going to this on Friday April 5th. Who else could make it? Dee says they have really good deals.

No, Tig. the first day is Thursday the 4th. I'm not sure why Dee picked the 5th. Rebecca, It's about 2 hours for me. Maybe we REALLY will get to meeet!!

Will do!! I have emailed some local gardener friends about it too. Should be another fun trip!! Like we need more plants - I can't even get the ones I have planted. Pulled a lot of weeds today tho, now I can see better what is coming up.

My DD's and I will be there...talked to them today and they got as excited as I did...see you there and can't wait!

PJ...How are we going to meet, should we wear label of some sorts with our DG names on it or are we gonna yell 'who's here from DG' let us know! LOL

I'd love to go...need to figure out if it would work though. We're at Disney World next week and I might just be a bit tired after all that walking. :)

I haven't been there in years, I have emailed Dee, since she says she goes every year - maybe she can tell us a good place & time to meet. I have a DG shirt (I can't beleive I was the only one to wear on to the swap), a tee shirt & the sweatshirt, will wear one or the other depending on the weather.

Hey PJ, I have never been, I was told about it from a nursery that I go buys things from all the time. He always goes and said that it is a really big deal. I can't go until Friday cause I will be traveling back from Tampa on Thurs. I will be spending the weekend with my DD who lives in Columbus. We can always hold up a sign "DG's here". Looking forward to meeting some more folks from DG.

Dee... You will be close to where I live, I'm only about 20 mins from Cols on Alabama side...I lived in Cols most of my life!

Rebecca, she actually lives on Ft Benning, her hubby is in the Army. She spends alot of time here with me right now cause her hubby is in Kosovo. Once he gets back she won't be down here as much as she is now, but that's ok, I will just go up to her house more. Do you have any good nursery's around that area. I have only seen 1, but have never stopped there. We can meet sometimes if you would like.

Dee...a trader from Dothan told me about some nice nurseries in Seale, Al and have never seen any there...my Mom & Dad lived there many years but they could be tucked down a dirt road somewhere, I'll try to find out where they are!

Will you make it to Calloway Gardens sale? Hope so, we could meet there...if not maybe some other time! Let me know when you come to Cols!

Rebecca, yes I plan on going, should be rolling into town about lunch time. Will pick up daughter and grandson and drive on up to the gardens. Do you have directions, she has never been there before either. If you find out where in Seale the nurseries are I would like to stop, but I go through there and have to tell you I don't see much of anything there. Like you said could be down a dirt road.

Dee...I think you will get to Cg's faster if you go thru Columbus and I think you should go out the interstate, been along time and don't remember... I will be driving thru Alabama side to Ga... Just ask at a station and they will tell you and I'm sure there are signs!

I found the email about GH...it is called Fantastic Flora Nursery in Seale and will find out one way or another where it is! I will probably have to email the person that told me about...

What do you all think aboout meeting at the entrance of the Butterfly house about 1:00?? This should give us all plenty of time to get there. If you think of a better plan let us know, I am flexible. I thought if I leave home about 8:00 am, I can get to TIGs by 9:00, we should arrive around 11:00.

Sounds good to me. I have to stop at the base and pick up DD and grandson. If I leave here around 6:30 (my time) that will give me plenty of time.

Ok, I think 1:00 would be a good time for us all to get together and we all can find the Butterfly house. The sale is on from 10:00-6:00 on Friday, Sat & Sun. I will wear my DG tee shirt and if you got em, wear em - otherwise, I guess a name tag will have to do! So far, I only see 3 on this thread that are coming and maybe Smilin32. I am bringing a couple of neighbors too. It would be a nice surprise if others would show up too.

That's a Thursday and Friday, right? I can't make it, then. I'm going on a field trip with my 9 year old on Thursday and I'm helping out in our church office on Friday. Egads....life gets complicated.

actually, I'm pretty bummed myself!!! did hope to get to meet you. Just plan that swap at your house, and we'll be there!!!

PJ, Dee said she thinks she can be at CG about 11:30. which is really better, cause the latter we get started, the later we'll get home, the more plants we'll miss and the more traffic everyone will drive through.

That's fine with me, I just thought she said she would leave her daughters about noon. I'm not really worried about returning traffic, I think most of it will be heading South, but do want to be home by dark. I figured we'd be there earlier, but just plan to meet later to allow everyone to get there. So when should we meet - 11:30, 12;00?

I've written Dee and asked her to check this thread and let us know for sure. She wrote me 2 days ago about 11:30, but things may have changed. I'm going to try and be there by 11 cause I'll have the baby. still trying to work out a babysitter for the babysitter, but may not get it to work.

Ya'll better hurry with a plan...I can be there at 11:00 or whenever, like I said my DD's will have to be home by 4:00!

I'm not sure just how long it will take me to get there, but I think 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. The thing starts at 10:00 and you an go as early as you like, just thought it would be nice to pick a time to meet when no one would have to rush. We don't have to get together as soon as we arrive! I'm waiting on an answer from Dee too, but I thought if we picked 11:30 everyone would be well covered and have time to relax. We'll need to grab a bite to eat somehow too. There is a resturant there but don't know how fancy it is.

11:30 sounds good to me. at the butterfly house? will that be open this time of year?

Don't know if their's is open, but I have lots of em here, Lol! We could meet near the entrance of it whether or not it's open.

Azalea, just a thought. it's under the beach dome, which is the first entrance for most of us, and the closest too. can we just meet there? I believe the butterfly house is on the other side. I bet the azaleas are in bloom which definitely means a drive around the gardens!!!

Ok, so if the sale is at the BEACH DOME, and it is close to entrance parking, that would be a better place to meet. Should we take a picnic lunch or get something there? I understand it is $7.00 - $8.00 to get in the gate. And Don't forget your CAMERA! Rebecca, what will you be wearing?

The entrance fee was $12 when I was there a couple of months ago. My grandson had art work on display since school started this year. They had taken the art work down when we went and was real nice in giving us free passes. I can't make it Friday but being I have a free pass I might go today and see what they have. I'll post tonight if I do go.
