On the subject of forums

Looks like a got back to the computer a little too late to have any input into the Bulbs versus Daylily/Iris forums.

Daylilies and Irises ARE NOT bulbs. If we can't have seperate forums for each-- can we at least have a new forum called Perennials? For those of us who know the difference, trying to apply the term "Bulbs" to daylilies and irises will be confusing and misleading.

That's why we're calling it "Bulbs and Friends" instead of just "Bulbs". Perennials can be friends of the bulbs for now, and when there is enough interest shown for specific non-bulb perennials, we'll put the new forum in and rename the bulbs forum to just "Bulbs".

Dave,
I don't want to gang up on you here or start an argument but I think Inda has a good point. I have to agree that a Perennial forum could accommodate a broader range of plants to discuss and trade than bulbs do. Bulbs can easily fit into a perennial category but daylilies, iris, and other perennials don't seem to fit into a "Bulb" category too well. If I was a newbie I wouldn't even think to look at a Bulb Forum for other plants. When I think bulbs I'm thinking crocus, daffs, and tulips. Or even tender bulbs like glads and dahlias (which neither are really bulbs either). I missed the last of the discussion too but I know the “& Friends” part is supposed to include the other plants ~ But like I said – a newbie probably would have no idea.

We could compromise and call it Perennials & Bulbs. That way it could accommodate from bulbs to grasses, to groundcovers, to daylilies, to iris and what ever else we can fit into the category. What da ya think? I know you don't want the site to get bogged down with a bunch of useless forums but I'm sure almost everyone would be involved in a perennial forum. If there's obviously a large group of iris collectors taking over the perennial discussions then an Iris forum could branch out from there (or whatever subjects might involve a lot of members). Huh?

Hmmm. I should have waited a bit before making the forum.

How about we do this: I start another forum called "Perennials". This way, we'll have two forums: "Bulbs" and "Perennials".

Then, when the discussions in the "Perennials" starts leaning heavily toward a particular thing (like Daylilies for example) we create yet another forum just for the Daylilies.

Does this sound like a good idea? Let me know - it only takes a second for me to create a new forum.

Summary: I create another forum called "Perennials" and we go from there.

Dave that sounds good to me. I know you're in tough position and you can't please all the people all the time. I think a "Perennials" & a "Bulbs" forum would work out well.

That sounds fine with me too, Dave.

Thanks for being so patient with all of us. :-)

Dave I think that would be great!

Okeedokee! I'll do this right now.
