Plant a Row for the Hungry? Need help.....

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I have seen the messages for this seemingly worthy cause, and I can't figure out who (if anyone) is organizing the effort here in middle Tennessee. I'd like to dedicate some of my vegetable garden space, but first I want to make contact to know what's needed, and when. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Most states have "food banks" loosely allied nationally. Also there are food services run by such organizations as Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, and some local churches. I have lost my links about who is promoting "plant a row for the hungry" but I am sure someone in these fora knows.

I take my surpluses to a local mission kitchen and to a couple of hospices -- figured those folks need all the wholesome fresh and organic food they can get.

Good luck

We have a couple of missions that I use and I also take surplus to a local rest home where my uncle is.Boy,those elderly people are EXCITED about fresh veggies.'Specially since I'm into heirlooms...they can actually have old fashioned tomatoes like they had when they were young!

Hello go_vols. Check with your local Cooperative Extention Office and your local Food Bank. Very good gesture on your part and good luck.
