Another New FL thread

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Hey guys, thought I would start another thread, the other was getting long again.

It's 80 outside and I am repotting stuff. I have something my aunt gave me called "air orchids". Don't know the real name, but it needs dividing. I think it might be the same thing as the walking iris but not sure. anyway if anyone wants any let me know and I will bring some.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

sounds cool Dee!!! and for anyone who asked for mahonia, I'll bring them, will be small because of room in the truck.

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Wishing to be there for that day, well that is not possible so, I know you're going to have a real good day.
Good luck and best wishes to everybody

TiG, I thought about driving DH's big diesel 250, but so afraid I will not do good in it. I have a luggage rack, wonder if I put some padding down, we could put the suitcases up on top and hope it doesn't rain?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

suitcase??? I'm bringing a pair of jeans, a T, undies and a toothbrush. doesn't that leave more room for plants?? LOL!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, that's all I'm bringing too, hope the hotel has shampoo, lol. I can bring some boxes and we can stack then, or tie the boxes on top.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Cala, just what are you really driving? need to know just how much room you can spare for me.

Cala,
I believe you can handle that big truck as long as you don't have to back up....just think of all the plants you can put into it. ;0)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Glory, it's a straight shift, 5 speed with an overdrive. It's been a long time, lol. You did see how HUGE that thing is didn't you? It takes 2 parking places to park it!!

Cala,
I couldn't drive it...I don't do very good with a stick shift.

Maybe y'all could rent on of those U-haul luggage carriers they are covered. Hey....just use the good old Red Neck Suitcase......a Walmart shopping bag. LOL

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

How about some padding on top then cover with a tarp, or if you drive that big thing there is plenty of room for a wide load to park (LOL). Once you get on the highway should be no problem, just straight ahead in 5th gear, see easy. Sending out an update. Please everyone check to make sure it is right. I feel like I am leaving something off, but can't put my finger on it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

hey!! I resemble(I mean resent) that wide load remark!! Bill just said there ain't no way he's letting me take his baby, er I mean truck, to Florida so I guess I will be driving the Explorer. It's got quite a bit of room in the cargo area and is comfortable to ride in. I'm using my Wallyworld suticase I guess since I can tie it on top and it won't scratch anything!! If it rains I guess we can find a laundry somewhere.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

dee, did you already send an update?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Sorry the wide load was meant for the truck. I have no room to talk about a wide load here myself. You might want to think about stuffing your walleyworld suitcase under the seat if there is room. Can you just see it, wind whipping your drawers going down the road.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Haven't sent the update. DH fell asleep before I was done, and I don't know how he does it. He is an early riser so it will be done early in the morning. Sorry :(

y'all are too funny.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Bloomers flapping in the breeze, flowers sticking out all the windows and a car load of women!! If we don't make it there, you will know they've taken us to the funny farm!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

ROFLOL! I can just picture ya'll heading down the highway.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

cristina, I wish you could be here, too. One day, we may
all get to meet.

Calla, I can just picture y'all. Put a sign on your car that says Panhandle or Bust.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Just of load to collage kids going on spring break

5 more days!!!!!I do hope someone is starting a new flower garden because I sure don't want to bring any of these plants back home.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

If you want any help with the driving - you'd better stick with the Explorer!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Gloria, we won't let you take anything back:)

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Absolutely don't worry about that Glory. I have a strip of land between us and the neighbor (technically it belongs to my mother-in-law) that for years was a weed patch. Several years ago we started keeping it mowed and last year I decided it was time to start developing flower beds. It's only about 50'x 250' with a few trees on it. So anyone that wants to donate to the cause after the trading is done probably won't be refused. Only problem with this strip is that I need to improve the soil too. Now that's a job, but I do a little at the time. I don't mean to sound greedy, I've just got lots of space to beautify, and it's gonna take years.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Only 4 days left! Marie is wondering if she should rent a u-haul lol.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Is there anyone coming that is still interested in visiting the man that grows orchids? When I talked to him a few weeks ago, he said he would be delighted for us to come. Said they were blooming now. I figured we would go middle of the afternoon or whenever we were finished at Earl's. Just want to let him know if there will be anyone interested and about what time.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

me me me, I do. I love orchids.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hey, I'm with her, if we have time, she's the one that would know:)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, we may not have time, and I need to save my money to go to Earls, lol. I know if I went to an orchid house, I couldn't leave without at least one.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

we have to go to Earls, there's a pink aurea with my name on it (I sure hope:)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hope you are right tiG, but the last time I talked to Earl, he said he didn't have a pink aurea, just a pink candida that was almost identical. Sorry, and hope I'm wrong and that he has one by the time you guys get there.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

I don't know if this guy sells orchids, he grows them and sometimes gives talks about them to the public. He's such a nice guy, he'd be more likely to give you one, but I don't really know that for a fact.Probably shouldn't even insinuate that.

Hey everyone, just got an email from Suzy (Sharbot). The reason she hasn't been on DG's or responded to anyone that might have emailed her (which I have been one) is that she has been really sick. She said that she just got out of the hospital 3 days ago, she was battling a bout of double pneumonia. The doctor told her to take it easy so she won't be able (allowed) to come to the swap meet. She sends her apologies for not responding and will be back on DG's soon. Said also that her DH has been taking good care of all her brugs and stuff and everything looks to be doing good. If it wasn't for him she would have lost most of her stuff. Anyway just wanted to let ya'll know.

Let hope Sharbot gets well real soon.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I sure had hoped to meet you Suzy! hope you're mending well!!!

Cala,
I saw a big black truck like Bills today and I thought of you....boy that truck is soooooo big.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

tiG and Cala (and anyone else), if ya'll want to see the orchid man before we swap, I'll ask about going around 8:30. Whatever you want to do.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

gingerlily,
I am interested in seeing the orchids if I can get there by 8:30 and I think I can.
Connie

I'm game for anything plant wise.
