Tulips from seed or Hyacinth?

FSH, TX

Anyone here have any experience growing these from seed versus bulbs and any information on how long it takes from seed germination to first flower from seed? Does the seed need to be completly buried or lightly tamped? When is the best time to pollinate? Are they self fertile? I know, a million questions, but any answers would be appreciated. I simply love the fragrance of Hyacinths and am impatient. Bulb and seed propagation is a must...that and I like diversity.

Eric ,I have heard to propagate (or multiply) hyacinth's you simply cut the bulb, each piece has to have part of the plate where the roots are...

Thanks for the information MavieRose. Looks like growing tulips from seed will be a real challenge. I love a challenge and as I have nothing but pure sand here I think I just might have luck on my side.

u're very welcome Brugmansia :). it is always a pleasure. Hesperia is located in the upper desert of So. Calif., where the soil is harsh sand! when i first ventured into gardening here, i was told nothing will grow. challenges i do welcome, it keep me more motivated, more so when i prove others wrong. i do mix soil i use to meet each plan't growing needs. so far, i've luck out on choices of plants i grow. since my childhood, i've been exposed to lovely and fragrant flowers, which has always been my goal to grow around me. oriental lilies and roses dominates the garden i grow. am positively sure u can grow anything u set ur mind in... ma vie
