Attention All Brug Lovers

(Zone 5a)

For all brug lovers lets see how much you love them by answering the following questions.

1 How many brug plants do you own now?
2 Name the ones you have
3 Which ones don't you have that you want to buy this year?

Each year I try to add something new to my garden and this year it will be brugs. Thanks to all the lovely pictures that you all have posted in DG of your own plants.
I look forward to reading your answers :)

This is going to be one HUMUNGOUS thread! No1 - too many to count. No2 - about 50 varieties (probably less if I had a listing of which ones have AKAs. And all these interesting crosses everyone been doing over winter. No3 - all of Monika's brugs plus that Butterscotch one of Eclipse's. That's not asking too much is it?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm in the witness protection program so I can't answer any questions!!! LOL LOL Too many to count.(more than 70) too many to list all the named ones....and they only ones I want this year is Rothkirch(a disease free cutting) and maybe a few more double hybrids..I like the singles the best!

But..SSSH! Don't say anything............LOL :-)

FSH, TX

All I have are aurea hybrids and hybrids created from aurea's. Arborea's and Flava's. Yes, thats it. Number one most wanted hybrid...Rothkirch.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ditto, around 50 kinds or so? interested most in seeing what everyone's seeds produce. trying to wean myself, alternating between not getting any more and getting just that one more. organizing so i can grow my seedlings up. and picking a few out to plant in Monika's 5 bucket way to store for the winter that way. and where in the world do i plant the 50 or so i have in pots now?

FSH, TX

Heck, to be honest I would be happy with just a few q-tips of pollen from Rothkirch. Crossing Rothkirch to Butterfly and Rosabelle and then perhaps back to Rothkirch later on. Rothkirch hungry. I want small pink aurea's and I want them as small and dark as I can get them. Thats all. Okay, peach aurea's too. And fragrant, first year blooms from all of my seedlings....thats all I want...and everything else of course.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

same here, have about 100 in one gallon or larger, 50 or so in 4" pots, several hundred seedlings just popped their heads up in past 3 days and over 40 varieties. Rothkirch, any one of Monikas or just a seed, and Butterscotch are on my to die for list.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Guess I don't qualify for this post as I only have 5 plants right now. I have peaches and cream, Jutner's orange,C. Yellow ,Jean Pasco and a salmon pink I don't know the name of.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

There are so many I'd like to have, but control is something I have to practice. I'm going crazy with all this stuff in the house. I'm anxious to get my culebra and hope I can make it grow. Have several new ones coming this spring, plus all that I've received from some of you and other traders. Lots of seedlings growing and will pick the best of the lot from them. Should be around 40 total blooming size brugs this summer, all different, and in hopes of hand pollinating with good results. Better go buy up a supply of New Skin and those bandaids that Cala uses.

Hamilton, Canada

Kyle,

LOL @ witness protection program!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

20 named,15 un named and close to 50 hybrid seedlings, aside from all the cuttings I'm rooting......What do I want?I WANT US "ALL" TO HAVE AN AMERICAN HYBRID DOUBLE PINK,that no brug police can take away!

I think at last count I'm down to 60 different ones not counting all the cuttings and babies from seeds..who knows but come March 15 they will all be outside again.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

CrestedChik...careful what you wish for...you may just get that double pink sooner than you think!!!! ;-)

(Zone 5a)

I do like that witness protection program lol. My goodness you guys I never dreamed when I posted this message that you all would have so many....wheeewww! I expected Brugmansia to have them all lol.
HoniBee you are so wrong you have five more than I do which is none at present so you fit in just fine.

Liz,Arlene,tiG,brugie, crestedchik, and Glory you guys just blow me away with all the plants you have.

TiG girl(shaking my head) you take the cake 150! I think that I should come to the store of tiG and do some shopping lol.
You guys have to have a large yard or green houses, I know that I am new to brugs but one thing I do know is that they are huge plants.I couldn't even imagine having 150,60,or even 40 plants.

I hate to inform you guys that you do not have a garden but a garden store, in which I would be more than happy to browse are and pruchase a few of your lovelies lol SWASG(simile with a sneaky grin) I have never enjoyed reading any thing so much as I have your answers here today, and I had the nerve to think that I was greedy...you guys go me beat by a country mile it's nice to know that I am in good company.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm obsessive. I think for every cutting I sent out, one grew here behind my back! Wind, would you like some nice size named but unmarked for postage?? just to get you started you know. :)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh wind, forgot, several of these are from brugmans seeds I started in the late summer. so that explains some :)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kyle, but I want EVERYONE to have one!!!

(Zone 5a)

tiG your a jewel and that was so cute about them growing behind your back lol. I know what really happened you just threw the seeds over your shoulders and all of a sudden new plants lol. I do thank you for your kind offer but I went hog wild on seeds and plants this year, now I have to find somewhere to squeeze them all in. Remember I have a small yard and garden, so I don't want to take them and can't find a place for them. As much as I want the Angel Wings at leat that is what I think it's called,I know it's Angel something lol but again thank you :)

Crestedchik that is so nice of you.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

You all are funny! and yes, obsessed....
(I say with envy, cause if I could have that many, I too would be obsessed - lol)

Kyle, great sense of humor!

If I could have any to choose from, It wouldnt matter which one it were, as long as it looked like the pictures posted by kyle or monika - you know what I'm talking about - aha, I know you all know exactly what I'm talking about!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Pebble....I got a humor what??I better see the vet tommorrow...LOL I had about 300 brugs at one time..one fall when my depression was kicking up I let a ton of them...about 100 unbloomed seedlings..Freeze overwinter because I couldn't cope with them that fall.so I'm way down on numbers this year..better to have quality than quantity..I say.:-)

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

I haven't really counted what I have, but I hall just the usual ones. The one I really want is Herrenhauser Garten!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I'm not quite sure how many I have. I think about about 60 including the seedlings. The ones I would like to get this year are Culebra, Dbl. Peach, HG, L'Amour, Butterfly and Cream sickle.

I have nine that I have gotten to root and live so far. I have junter orange and white and I think a pink. I have just had these over the winter inside and all are about 3 feet tall, but no flowers yet.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Just seeds here from two generous GW people. Haven't sprouted yet and I am about to start worrying. It has only been a week and a half. They are checked hourly. Hopefully they will grow into big beautiful brugs and I will share my bounty with others!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I know i'll be kickin myself this spring when I have to deal with all these seedlings. I have no idea how many I have but spent yesterday transplanting trays & trays of them. I've run out of room and I'm out of pots! I'll certainly have to send some of these to new homes cause I won't be able to plant them all.

As for my named varieties - I probably have a dozen or so. Many are repeats of the same varieties. I did manage to get my double orange to root (:o) and it's doing great. The hard wood cutting Eric sent me rooted very easily. Maybe I can trade a couple cuttings from it for ones I'm looking for. I want hmmm... Equador Pink, Any doubles, culebra, Any of the R's, flava & sang hybrids, versi alba (killed the one I had), any variegated, and all those fancy Euros we can't have!! Oh yes... and a real arborea.

FSH, TX

Eclipse, quality before quantity is a most definite, but I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't already have your own double pink that you were keeping on the wraps.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Well, I don't have that many, mostly just cuttings that I have received from some very generous people. I have also ordered a few from different places, trying to find the one I like the most. Hopefully this summer I will have some that I can share with others that don't have what I have. Let's see, the ones I would like to have are (like everyone else) the double pink, culebra, and some of Monika's (which I think are just beautiful). Poppysue, I have the Equador Pink that is growing great guns if you would like. I have a couple so don't mind sharing. LMK

FSH, TX

I would gladly trade some Culebra's for a Rothkirch today. Heck, I would even give an unknown double I have...some HG's, and anything else I can't think of for a Rothkirch. Just say bye bye to to a few feet of my best hybrids for a single Rothkirch.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

How I wish I had a Rothkirch.

FSH, TX

Would you trade me a Rothkirch for 6 ft of hardwood Culebra cuttings and 5ft of hardwood HG cuttings...several feet of which would be from the flowering regions.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Eric. If I had a Rothkirch it would be in the mail to you already for just a foot long cutting of Culebra and HG.

FSH, TX

Funny thing is, I am serious. I would glady trade that much for a Rothkirch as I place quality before quantity any day of the week. I also like the larger numbers though as I like to select the best from the most I can get. I am seriously considering only starting my two best crosses next year and simply growing up 500 of each of my two favorite crosses and giving the rest out. Of course as always only keeping the the ones that bloom in the first year to breed with and only those in color. I would love to select for fragrance as well, but then I might not have any seedlings at all.

sad thing is Eric, we do know you're serious. I'm praying someone will come up with a cutting for you, but if they are smart, they won't post it here, cause they'd be flooded!!!!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I would love any double right now. I think they are all beautiful. I saw one that I would like is have Herrenhauser Garten ( I think that is what it is called).

Windsuffer I hope someone sends you a cutting. I would but mine are only cutting right now and aren't big enough.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Windsurfer,
I am a beginner and therefore they all have something special about them. Give me time and I will probably have my favorites. I have a number of cuttings and I will anxiously await for them to bloom this summer. I have so much to look forward to.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

If I get Rothkirch.... Taking the 5th ammendment!!!

FSH, TX

Lol, that is a good one Hibiscus. That really made me chuckle. You can find double candida species at many nurseries around here and of course online as well. Native Habitat has a few different doubles of which Knightii is a very nice on. Of course valleygrow has a few as well. If that isn't good enough, I expect after everyone gets seeds started on their doubles though that this fall a great many jdouble hybrids will be going out. I know I sent out a few rooted HG's and a few cuttings of that one last year. Sent out a bunch of Culebra's as well. Just wait and see-everyones eager to set seed with them right now though I am sure and saving them for those special trades. Not to mention many of us are hoping to get a double pink or peach hybrid.

I am in shock of the amount you people have in brugs!!!! Wow!
I have 5 unknown cuttings doing well, one 1 frosty pink that is just bouncing back from an attack of the spider miteds ( have two more named variety cuttings, one died unknown reason and a charles G that died from the mites).

Love the look of brugs sooooooooooo much cannot wait to get blooms and maybe someday i will have my sunroom as full as I imagine Liz's is.

Crys
( soon to have seeds started)

FSH, TX

Ahh, well never fear Crys....I for one am going to have too many seeds this year to plant once again and I imagine others are as well. Its only a matter of time before something good comes from them all. I only have aurea's and hybrids created from aurea x other species hence multihybrids with aurea background in the yard and of course flava's and arborea's so my seeds are guaranted to have aurea in the background as even the moths can't do me in with no pure species in the yard. Only think pure are the aurea's and arborea's. I will certainly catch some moths this year to post for those who have never seen these giants pollinating their Brugmansia. If you grow a large number of Brugmansia you can't help the onslaught of moths and bee's each day. You can hand pollinate before the flower opens though and remove the corolla though so they won't be interested in that particular hybrid. I have this theory as well...if the pistal is completly loaded with pollen from me then anything that could be added by a moth won't be much. Of course, many of you like those large overwhelming flowers. I simply like can't relate. Who wants to try to create a 3 ft long 2 ft wide flower after all?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Is that Crys in Ontario?
