Seed Collecting Photos

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Now that Dave has provided us with the option of posting photos on all the forums, maybe it would be helpful to post some photos of seed pods, etc.

Here is a photo of the seed pods on a flabellata aquilegia (blue fan columbine). The seeds rest inside the dried hornlike pods and are easily shaken out by the wind or a harvesting gardener. The seed are fairly large, and most are a deep oily looking black color.

What a great idea WZ! As a novice seed collector, this sort of photo and info is really welcome.

Oh thank you for posting this...I am a new seed collector too! This helps so much. I never did find the seed for my nasturium last year. Thanks again...vic

Hi, Vic: Nasturtium are easy...three seeds stuck together on the stem. You'll see them toward the end of the season. Maybe you're pulling them too soon..don't know how you grow them in NC. I'll look for a picture and post it in another thread.

Great photo Weeze' Like your bracelet too, tiger eye?

Sis: Thanks. I was taking the pic, so that's not my hand. A gardening friend was holding the seed pods for me...funny about the bracelet..never noticed it before. Guess I was focused on the seeds. Sure looks like Tiger's Eye to me..just love it..have a pin and some earrings made from it.
