Kowliga was written by Hank Williams. Kowliga was a small conmmunity about 20 miles from where I grew up. The story goes that he was visiting there and there is a real wooden Indian and he saw it and when he got back in the car he started hitting the dash with his hand and the beat and words were soon history. I remember when Hank Williams died I was a lad about 13 years old and was visiting my aunt that lived even closer that I to Kowliga and the grief that everyone was in because of his death. The people of that region had come to love him because of that song. He was from Montgomery Al. Kowliga is located close to Dadeville and Alexander City AL. The song sort of put that area in a lets go to Kowliga and see the Indian.

I was rereading before posting and noticed that I wrote there is a real wooden Indian. I find that funny. In other words he wasn't made from artificial wood. LOL That really wasn't what I was trying to convey. But I hope it is understandable. In other words there is a Kowliga and he isn't just a made up Indian.

Georgia That was so good to read about...you often wonder where the idea for a song comes from. Thanks for sharing that. I love Hank Williams songs!

Oh and PS to "eyes"...I thought we were friends...!!!!(insert tears here)
I never thought you'd turn out to be so selfish....! (insert baleful glare here)

I love listen music of "Best of my Love" ... (EAGLES) and "California Girls" ....EAGLES

1)Little things I should have said and done, I just never took the time……

2) But when I saw you last night, You held my hand so tight, When you stopped to say hello…….

3) The gates and doors were barred, And all the windows fastened down, I spent the night in sleeplessness And rose at every sound, Half in hopeless sorrow And half in fear the day, Would find the soldiers breakin' through To drag us all away……

4) I know a man ain't supposed to cry, But these tears I can't hold inside Losin' you would end my life you see 'cause you mean that much to me…….

5) She's leaving now, 'cause I just heard the slamming of the door, The way I know I've heard it slam a hundred times before……..

6) As soon as you're born, they make you feel small By giving you no time instead of it all 'Til the pain is so big you feel nothing at all………

7) Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams seeking grace in every step he takes. His sight has turned in side himself to try and understand the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake....

8) You know the preacher, like the cold He knows I'm gonna stay…….

9) The microscopes that magnified the tears Studied warts and all Still the life flows on and on………

10) Close my eyes She's somehow closer now Softly smile, I know she must be kind When I look in her eyes She goes with me to a blossom world……….

11) She loves the free, fresh wind in her hair Life without care She's broke, but it's o'k………

12) Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you Nice to know somebody loves me Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do…….

13) It's a long, long road, from which there is no return While we're on the way to there, why not share And the load doesn't weigh me down at all……….

14) The church bell chimed, it rang twenty-nine times….

There…try these…..! Some are newer…..nothing too hip hop so I think most people will have heard them at least!

We both already know how it goes.

I'll be.................

2) Been away, haven't seen you for awhile,
How've you been? Have you changed your style?

3) I'm gonna buy a ............that I can call my own,
One that other fellows cannot steal.

4) .................,coat of navy blue,
She loved a sailor boy and he loved her too.

5) A thousand miles, dear, a thousand more,
Across the water, across the shore.
I'll say a prayer, dear, for you and mine,
Give them my love, dear, each.........

6) ......, there's a muddy road ahead,
......, paid no mind to what it said,
......, all these bitter, things I find,
Should have read, that...... .....

7) ........Daddy's little fatty,
I'll bet he's gonna be a man someday.

8) She's my ............, she's my treasure and my pet

9) Oh, have you heard tell of sweet ..............,
Who crossed the wide prairie with ole ........
With two head of cattle and one spotted hog,
A tall Shanghai rooster and one yellow dog.

10)Oh, many years ago in Arkansas,
A stranger told this story to my pa,
And often is the time he said to me,
I know it is the truth certain as can be.

heres a few hints
#3 think country female....CHEST take a BIG guess
#4 more of the song....
Ooh, I bet you're wond'rin' how I knew
'bout your plans to make me blue
With some other guy you knew before
Between the two of us guys you know I love you more
It took me by surprise I must say
When I found out yesterday
Dontcha know that I
#6 Y'all don't deserve a hint on this easy one...but since I like ya...think Britian
Keep you doped with religion, and sex, and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still bleedin' peasants as far as I can see

#7 There some more...
It's a Colorado Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
friends around the campfire
and everybody's high
#9 Was in a band with #6 artsit..Heres more...same song...
Fab - long time ago when we was fab
Fab - but It's All Over Now Baby Blue
Fab - long time ago when we was fab
Fab - like this pullover you sent to me

#10 I got myself now...have to go look in my piano seat....*shoot*
FREE PACK OF SEED to whoever can sort my brain out....give ME the answer...

#13 More.....The road is long, with many a winding turn
That leads us to - who knows where, who knows where
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him...

#14 ....Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

So with these clues I leave you...

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Mummy, I have some of those lyrics in my brain, but never could hear words well in songs, and the titles won't filter through. You will keep me awake tonight! I can just hear that raspy voice, singing "But I'm strong...."

Strong enough to carry him...he aint heavy...he's my brother......
I didn’t know any Aimee…I am in disgrace! LOL!!!!
OK
Here’s my revenge…these are newer but not real new…most late 60’s and 70’s….EVERY ONE was a really well known classic rock sort….
1) When are you gonna come down When are you going to land I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man……
2) I met a gin-soaked bar-room queen in Memphis, She tried to take me upstairs for a ride She had to heave me right across her shoulder,'Cause I just can't seem to drink you off my mind ….
3) Ventura County line, Santa Cruz and Trestle, Australia's Narabine, All over Manhattan…..
4) I was an impossible case No-one ever could reach me But I think I can see in your face There's a lot you can teach me So I wanna know..
5) Why don't you ask him if he's going to stay? Why don't you ask him if he's going away? Why don't you tell me what's going on? Why don't you tell me who's on the phone?
6) We'd like to know A little bit about you For our files. We'd like to help you learn To help yourself Look around you. All you see Are sympathetic eyes. Stroll around the grounds Until you feel at home….

7) Buddy you're an old man poor man Pleadin' with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day You got mud on your face You big disgrace…

I'm just like you Aimee...I walk around singing the lyrics of songs I DON'T Know!lol!!!!

Mummy, in all fairness to you, it would be real odd if you knew those old songs. Most were dragged from the memory of my childhood. Songs from WWII era, the things I heard after the war, some from school song books. Maybe Shoe and GRC and Jo, or Mary_M or a few others will click to them, but I think I should have started a new thread instead of posting 40s in the 50_60_70 thread. Pardon me! And your revenge bites, I haven't a single clue.

Hey that rolly polly one...now i remember that somehow...i think my gram sang it i can hear the melody....
hmmm.....aimee i know you'll know some of those last ones....once you heard them you'd say oh yeah!!!!

anyway i think songs from any era are cool as more people can join in if we are DIVERSE!!!!lol!!!!

A)

And in time the riverbanks will die
The reeds will wilt and the ducks won't fly
There'll be a tear in the otter's eye .............
The banks will soon be black and dead
And where the otter raised his head
Will be a clean
white skuill instead.

B)

She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was as nervous as she could be
She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was afraid that somebody would see ...

C)

She ain't got no money
Her nose is kinda funny
Her hair is kinda wild and free
Oh, but Love grows.....
