Dibble or Fid

Bonifay, FL(Zone 8a)

If you transplant many small plants U can use a pencil or a dibble I have used a fid. A tool used to splice rope. they are made of hard plastic pointed like a pencil and hollow with the other end cut on a angle that is nice for working under plants to lift out. They come in 2 or 3 sizes and are sold in most boating stores. Priced lower than a dibble and higher than a pencil.

Good advice, Greenwood. My stepdaughter has done some gear work..bet she has a fid or two I could try. I bought a little tool called a nitpicker from Pinetree seed catalog. It cost about $2.50. It will work for lifting the plants up, but it's a bit big for handling tiny seedlings. I think it will come in really handy for lifting seedlings out of cellpacks, however...WZ

WZ You need the small fid, they use to put line (Poly)inside works good on float and light trap lines.

Greenwood, I vote that you put your idea in Gardenology, under pricking out, dibble or dibber (or all of the above :) I'm going to make a mental note to look for a fid the next time my DH drags me to the Bass Pro Shop.
