Get together at Dave's Farm?

Who's interested in having some sort of a "Dave's Garden Get-Together" at our farm here in East TN (close to Knoxville) sometime around early August? Are there any out there who would be interested in making the journey out here?

We could have a massive plant/seed/etc trading party and just hanging out and putting faces with the names behind Dave's Garden. We have 16 acres so people could camp out here, or we have several hotels within 5 miles of our farm.

Let me know - I'm not actually announcing any kind of event, but am just trying to figure out what kind of interest there may be in this.

Dave what a marvellous idea! Can't you do it next year! Remember, I'm on the move and then have to go to Germany around that time. Just joking of course. I wouldn't dream of asking you to re-schedule!! I can't think of anything I would rather do than meet you and Trish and the wonderful friends I've met at DG. I'm sure you are going to get a huge response to this and much support. :-)

Would love to Dave, but Tennesse is a ways away from washington....:(

Sounds great! I'll see how many vacation days I have left and if the mrs can make it too. We'd love to stop by, we'll have to see as the day get closer.

I didn't realized that you live in Murfreesboro! I was there Aug 99 and I was just in TN last week.

That's us - smack dab in the middle of God's country ;0) We've only lived in the 'boro since last summer, though.... If you're ever down (up?) this way again, you'll have to give us a shout...unless you're a big Florida fan.....we're kind of allergic to them, LOL!!!!

I would love to. But I will have to wait until a future get together. One of these days. I do have relatives there. So I have a built in excuse. How generous of you to invite us.I would love to meet so many of our members.

We have a problem here!!Gators and Vols at a get together?? I think we can work it out, except on a game day that is! LOL

I had a bud vase with 2 flowers; a blue bachelor's button and an orange Cali poppy for all the Gators fans at the wedding. You can see it on the table behind us in the wedding pic in the photos forum.

I'd love to come down and meet everyone! I'm not sure, though, that I can make it this summer (I may be able to), since we've already made plans for July in Virginia (freetime is a premium). Is this something you might do next year, also? Thanks Dave and Trish for the generous idea :)

I see two people in my area that have replied to this, Dicentra, and mom24cats! I would love to meet everyone and get to see some REAL mountains!!!! I don't know if I could get away for long, but I sure would try! Maybe I could even hitch a ride with mom24cats since she seems to know the way!!! sue

Count me in! I'm just 40 miles from Asheville, NC, and not too far of a drive to Knoxville area. I would LOVE to do this. I love mini-vacations especially when there's a specific purpose involved.
Carolina Gardener has an annual meeting in a different southern town each year and those are great. They have speakers, visits to local arboretums and lastly, visits to local nurseries (to make sure the plants get home alive). We don't have to be that complicated, but wouldn't it also be fun to bring some show and tell stuff, maybe some crafts or something. I could bring some moonshine! lol

I'd love to come too. I am hoping to have a new job this spring where I can actually have a little time off. Got 2 babies gonna be born to go visit already this year but I may be able to swing it.

I love the sound of that if we can swing it. I am in charge of a first time family reunion Labor Day over in the Memphis area and may get too bogged down with that at the last min. I will work extra hard and maybe that won't happen. I am new at organizing reunions and no one else in the family has ever done it, so this self-proclaimed idiot is giving it a try. We need a thread on reunions, I think. There is a lot of interesting stuff on the web but no hands on type of thing by a newbie like me. Tell me Dave, is there a good campground near you? Hubby has to have the stuff like electricity, running water, etc. I call him a whimp but that doesn't stop him from wanting those things he calls necessities. We own a wonderful "Trailmanor" camper made in your neck of the woods. We just love it. If there is a campground anywhere near you, we will be ok. Hey, maybe we need a thread on camping also. Gotta go and uncover a few plants. It got so cold last night here in middle TN that the water in the dog's bowl froze solid. I think putting a sheet on something is really probably a joke when it is that cold. I know it wouldn't help me any. We are freezing in Nashville and it won't be any better for the next two nights. What we have is mild though compared to what a lot of others are getting. Won't spring ever get here? I am getting impatient.

That sounds like so much fun!!! Hubby and I wouldnt be able to go because we wont fly ( dont want to orphan the boys in case of an accident) and too far to drive.

We'd love to come down and take you up on your kind offer and to camp out on your property! We do have a problem, though. We would have to bring our 2 Bassetts & 2 Poms. They're very good dogs and won't be a problem to anyone. Hope this would not be too much of an imposition for you and the other guests. If it is, please don't hesitate to let us know, we'll understand.

This will also give us an opportunity to visit my sister who lives in Kentucky. We haven't visited her in four years.

Kind of a Daves Garden Woodstock in the making! I hope it goes well, because I would like to make it one of these years. This could develop into something great. I propose a big plant/seed trade! I think Trish is wanting to start a rose garden, and some hanging plants. If anyone passes through Joshua Tree, let me know. I could send something along. ( I wish I could go!!!)

DAVE!!! What a great idea! I can fly down, no problem. However, getting plants there for a swap might be a stretch!Love the whole idea, and like Lisa, I'll have my camera too.
I'm going to try and rally some friends and we'll all show up. How DO you feel about well-behaved dogs?

Dave -- can you let us know what motels/hotels are in the area so we can find out if they allow pets. If we are able to come, we'll be bringing 2 cats (we just lost our beloved Snoopers last Thursday........can't beleive that's 2 that have passed on in less than 2 months)! I need this vacation more than ever now! Hopefully, the other 2 will be with us for a while!! But anyway, they would need to stay in the motel room as I don't think they (or I) would want to be camping in August with no air conditioning! :-)
