Storing seeds

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Because of a few speedbumps on my road through life...I have a box of seeds from trades this year that I will not be able to plant for awhile. Any suggestions on the best way to store them so that their viability will suffer as little as possible until I can get them planted?

You can send them to me, once they set seeds, I'll send you fresh seeds! LOL

LOL, you two. I think Zany's smart enough to see through your ploy. She should give them to ME for safekeeping (*grin*)

Whoever posts serious answers here, please consider posting them to Gardenology, too :)

You two are just so wonderfully thoughtful and kind! Such generous offers...but alas I had a rather more local type of storage in mind!

Zanymuse, a dry, dark, and somewhat cool area is probably your best bet. Most seeds will retain viability for over 5 years in that type of storage.

So, put them in a shoebox, cover it tightly, and place it in a safe and cool spot.

Dave beat me to it...but I was gonna suggest that you store them in a Tupperware or Rubbermaid Container....

Thanks for the info! I really would hate to ruin all these prescious seeds and lose them before we get re located.
