Ole Fashion Orange syrup?

My dad has been asking for this orange syrup that he used to buy years ago. He says he thinks U-Bet who also makes chocolate syrup made it. My sister thinks it came in a gallon size clear plastic container with a pump dispenser.
Does anybody remember this product, know if it is still made and where it can be found?
He said he used to mix it with water.....its not Tang...already asked him that.
Thanks alot.
Janice and her daddy :)

Just wanted to bring this post up to the top. Want to solve this mystery once and for all.

I did a dogpile search and came up with this French Toast with Orange Syrup recipe. It might not be what you're looking for but it sounds yummy and looks easy enough to make.

Stuffed French toast with Orange Syrup

Ingredients
Six 1-inch slices of French bread
4 ounces of cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup orange marmalade
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Dash of ground nutmeg
2 Tablespoons butter or margarine

Orange syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
One 6-ounce can frozen orange juice concentrate.

Cut across the top crust side of the bread and cut a pocket in each slice. In a small mixing bowl stir together the softened cream cheese and the orange marmalade. Mixture should not be soupy. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture into every pocket. In a mixing bowl beat eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg till combined. Dip stuffed bread slices into egg mixture. Heat butter or margarine on a griddle, and add stuff bread slices. Fry over medium heat until golden brown, turning once. Serve with warm orange syrup and garnish with orange slice powdered sugar. Makes 8 slices.

Orange Syrup: In a small saucepan combine sugar, butter, and orange juice concentrate. Place over low heat until butter is melted. Do not boil. Remove from heat and cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Beat until slightly thickened and serve warm. Orange syrup will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks. Makes 1-1/2 cups.

Hello Janice! I remember seeing bottles of orange syrup in the chemists' shops long ago. It was supposed to be an alternative to Rose Hip Syrup and chock full of vitamin C. Maybe it's still around. But the homemade version from the recipe sounds so much nicer!!

Thanks so much.
I was searching (as much as I know how) for several days prior to posting. My dad has Cancer and has been sick and has been keeping his (grown) children busy with little requests such as this. ( Weve been doing a pretty good job actually- but this is a real stopper)
I guess hes at the point in his life (I'm sure the cancer helps) where he wonders back in time and maybe misses the simple pleasures.
thanks again.

You have my sympathy Janice. When my Dad was in hospital after having a heart-attack and stroke he wanted a cream tea. That's scones with butter and clotted cream and jam together with a pot of tea. We were going to take him to his favourite tearoom, one he used to like going to with my Mum. But it wasn't to be and I was heart-broken when he realised this and said to me"I'm not going to make it am I?"
Yes, I think when we are at this stage it is probably the simple things we want. I wish you every success with this. Hope is a wonderful thing.
I look in at DG regularly. I'm at the UK Forum most days. You'll be made very welcome there if you feel like looking in and saying hello.

Janice, this sounds like maybe an old-fashioned soda fountain syrup? I did a search for orange soda syrup, and came up with lots of hits......

I don't think the recipe above (as yummy as it sounds for french toast) will work, because it has butter in it. And butter and water won't mix well.

But if you haven't already, try searching for orange soda syrup, and you may be able to find something closer to what your dad remembers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family; it's a hard time to go through.

Thanks North and Go!
Yeah, it sucks to put it simply. My dad is 6'3" and is a retired detective. He has always been a very strong man. Both mentally and physically. He dosent even look like my father anymore. But enough of the depression ( I fully enjoy my denial)
I will check the orange fountain syrup.... I was searching for just "orange syrup".
Thanks again.

Hi, Found my mother's old cookbook (1948) It had a recipe for Orange Sirup (old spelling)
4 cups sugar
2 cups hot water
4 TBS corn sirup
6 TBS grated orange rind
combine the ingredients in a saucepan. Place over direct heat, stir only until the sugar is dissolved, and simmer gently for 25 minutes. Strain through flannel. Turn into hot sterized jars and keep tightly covered in the refrigerator. ( Makes one quart)

I hope this is of help to you, there was also information on the difference between simple sirup and stock sirup. but the differences were in the use and sweetness, hope this helps.

Thank You MC. I will try it and see if it passes the test! Daddy-O is in the early stages of getting back on track. He will like this if not for the syrup then for the thought.
Will tell him about all that helped. He gets a kick out of what you can do with the computer. ( We are getting him his own)
Thanks again

Janice,
I was wondering what kind of cancer your father has? I hope the question isn't too personal, but I'm asking because my husband has stomach and colon cancer and we have been doing some things with alternative medicine that have been helping him.
If you are interested in hearing about it let me know.
I hope all will work out for you, I'm sorry you are going through this. Cancer is difficult and frightening.
My best wishes for you, Birdie

I wanted everyone who responded to my plea for the mysterious Orange Syrup to know that I did indeed find it.... well not exactly Orange, but I did locate Black Cherry and Vanilla today at Shop Rite!! Its a syrup that you mix 7 parts water to 1 part syrup.
My dad was happy to see it. I guess they still make the orange but didnt have it in stock.
Just wanted to let you all to know that I thought of you guys the second I spotted it on the shelf.
Thanks for all your help.
Janice
