Hi Rose,
I have a deaf cousin, we've lived fairly close our whole lives. She's tried to teach me many many times:) I just never could remember much. Mother, grandmother, dad, things like that I remember. and the alphabet, but that's all. It is a beautiful language, I love to see songs signed at concerts.

Sis.... ;-)

I know some sign language. Learned how when I used to take care of a little guy that was born premature so had a hard time hearing so learned some of the basics so that I was able to communicate with him. I watched that little guy for 6 years and then parents moved away but still miss him. Right now my sign language is a bit rusty but still have the book that the parents gave to me for me to use and learn from. I still remember some of the signs for some of the words and such but as far as doing sign language in sentences,I'm a bit slow in that department.
There was another little boy that I also used to watch and he wanted me to teach him how to say 'I love you ' in sign language so I did. He is in the second grade now and whenever I see him, he always gives me the 'I love you' sign which really makes me feel good. I'm good friends with his mother, so see him quite often but he never forgets to give me the I love you sign.
RR,if there was a way for me to show you the sign here,I would say good morning to you in sign language and wish you a good day, so just have to type it out for you but I did do the signing on this end for you.

REDROSE; forgot to ask you. Do you read lips? My aunt was deaf in one ear but she read lips providing you was looking right at her while you spoke so never had to use sign language with her.

RR....I'm deaf in one ear.....I think I should learn signing cause ya never know...besides I would love to be able to converse with anyone with special needs. I do thank God for my one good ear though, and as long as you are in front of me or on my left side I can hear prety darn good. It's only when there is a lot of noise on my left, that it's hard to hear. We just give thanks for what we have. Thank you for sharing.

Oh you do, "you are welcome" =D... so that will be good for you learn sign lang. before other ear become deaf who knows. I am sure you will enjoy to learn S.L. =-) Take Care!

RR...just wanted to tell you that DD and I took an ASL class a few years ago. I still read my sign book and still use many of the signs - mostly the "I LOVE YOU" sign. I love the butterfly sign as well. Anyway, at the end of the class, they brought in a deaf person and we had to sign with her. I made the sign of "stupid" for myself because I felt so dumb in trying to communicate with her and yet she understood every word I signed. I did do a lot of finger spelling. I've also read articles about hearing people that sign at musicals concerts for the deaf. Would that be cool or what. Our instructor worked with the deaf as far as going to the hospital with them especially in emergencies and also in court rooms during trials. It was a very interesting class and I have lots of fond memories of taking it. I wish I could sign better. God Bless...

Redrose I would love to learn sign language and like "eyes" I am deaf in one ear too!! My mother is completely deaf, so who knows - I might be like her in the years to come. I thought your link was enlightening and very interesting and maybe we should all learn to do this for who knows when it might be needed. Thank you my dear!!

I am glad you will try to learn sign language and true never know you become deaf, it will be good start to practice sign when you have time so, now my son has 2% hearing loss on the right ear like you said never know, so I would be hearing but my mother was sick with Scarlet fever with measle that how, I am deaf but not totally deaf. So, now I have 90% hearing loss. That is lot. I wear hearing aid when I was 3 years old and go speech thearphy when I was 3 too, I thank to my mom do that for me. I only wear hearing aid on left ear and on the right ear can't hear well not clear sound like static.
