Can anyone please tell me how to get a start off a hibiscus and a fusia?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

pukie, I don't know about hibiscus but fuscias are easily started from soft wood cuttings. Just keep the soil damp and in a shady spot.

pukie... I just rooted some cuttings of fuscia... NO problems! Take a cutting near a tip and take off all but 2 leaves, and stick it in some damp soil... nothing else required!

I had a fuscia I had overwintered inside which had put out very long runners. I cut them back to about 10" and rooted the tips I had cut off. After 2 weeks, all seem to have survived. Nothing added but watering, and being in the shade, as Zanymuse suggested. Never thought it would be this easy!

BTW, I tried rooting several shrubs last year and was VERY unsuccessful, so glad for this propagation forum!

Rooting hibiscus is similar to the fuchsia. It just takes longer to get them rooted. I take a snip off the end, remove most of the leaves and all flower buds, dip in rooting hormone and put in moist soil. Then I cover with a plastic bag and keep in the shade for at least 1 month before checking for growth. Then gently dig down by plant and see if there are roots. If you tug slightly on stem and it resists, it probably is rooted.
