Longest flowered Brugmansia

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

When I was on a trip to Calif many years ago..I happened across a large plant of Brug Versicolor Alba in a botanical garden. In all my years of research on bruggies I had never even seen mention of it in all the literature available. I acquired a cutting and promptly sent plants to Logees and Native Habitat so the plant could be dispersed. Its a good thing we did reproduce them as the original plant was the only one that anyone knew of at the time. the plant was slated for removal at a later date, as the white brugs were not well taken at the garden. The flowers on this species can reach 24 inches in length and 9 inches wide.Nice typical Versicolor fragrance. It crosses well too.As a seed parent and pollen parent. This plant was 4 feet tall at the time I took the pic.Later that summer it had upwards of 200 flowers at a time open.

Would this be the one named Kyle's Giant White? (*grin*)

Logee's still sells the versicolor alba. Must be about the only plant they have that I haven't purchased.

Very nice picture Kyle. Would have loved to have seen it when it was even larger, but this one would be hard to beat.

Ms Batt -Kyles Giant white is a suaveolens hybrid I did several years backThe flowers are almost twice as big as regular suaveolens flowers and heavy bloomer. You can see a pic of it at Native Habitat website.

What a beautiful plant. I hope mine looks like that when it grows up.One day next week I'm taking a trip to Logees and check out their Brugs and other plants.I told DH to plan on spending a few hours there as they have several greenhouses I want to look through. There's one GH with a waterfall in it and I will be sure to bring my camera and get some pictures. I plan on filling the truck with Brugs and plants as it will be a Birthday, Anniversary and Valentine Day spending spree all in one. Bet DH will never ask me again what I want for these special days. LOL

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Gorgeous, Kyle! Could that be the same one as in this pic? http://www.erowid.org/plants/brugmansia/images/archive/brugmansia3.jpg I posted here last October http://davesgarden.com/showthread/115999.html asking what kind it was and Eric (Brugmansia) said it might be Versicolor Alba.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Wingnut that looks like the plant..where was your pic taken?
The mother plant were got the cutting from was about 15 feet tall.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Gloria, I have 4 cuttings of the versicolor 'alba' that I am rooting, you are welcome to share. I can bring it this weekend when I come by or I can hold till Mar. Let me know if you want it.

Kyle, are these slow growers or fairly decent. About how long do you think it might take to reach a good blooming size. These cuttings are about 4 or 5 inches long and about as thick as a pencil.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dee, if you have one left come March, pretty please can I have one?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Sure you can Suzie, I have 4, that means I can share 3 until they get big, then can share more. Will put your name on it.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Dee in Fla they usually start blooming at around 3 feet..

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Eclipse, that pic is posted on this site: http://www.erowid.org/plants/brugmansia/brugmansia_images.shtml It's the one with this caption after the link: "White Flowers w/Pink Tinge on 15 ft tree. Photographer unknown." Nothing more, so I don't have any idea where it was taken. I found that site last year, at about the same time I saw your picture somewhere of the brug tree against your friend's white house, but I don't know if it was on that site (if it was, it's not there anymore).

Thanks for the positive ID! Now to find one... :-)

Dee,
This weekend would be fine if you don't mind dragging it with you.

Snow,
Dee has the Alba....thanks for the offer.

Altamonte Springs, FL(Zone 9a)

Dee...could I put my name on one of the Alba cuttings??? I could get it in March...
