Jiffy mix?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find it. I am trying to plant some things with jiffy mix, but I can't get it to stay wet. All the water just runs off. Is there a trick to making this hold water? Thanks,
Joan

Here's a thread about Jiffy Mix http://davesgarden.com/showthread/167364.html I usually pour a little warm water into the bag before using it. After it sits a bit it ends up being damp but not wet.

Thanks Sue. I'm gonna go print that thread so I can find it again. I made a mistake and planted the seeds, then tried to wet the mix. What a disaster. I had to pour tons of water over it and keep draining it off when it ran out. I'm using the 72 cell pack things, so it was a long process and I'm afraid I may have washed some of the small seeds away. Oh well, live and learn I guess. LOL! This coming weekend, I'm going to plant more, but I think I'll wet the soil first, then put into the cells and wet some more until it holds water, then plant the seeds. Can you tell this is my first time? LOL! Thanks so much for finding the thread again for me. I ususally mark the threads I want to see again, as "watch this thread", but I didn't this one.

We all learn some things the hard way. I always dampen my soil first ... just enough so it will absorb water. Warm water seems to work best. If you seal the bag back up after... the steam will make it damp throughout the bag.
