Some of my older brug crosses

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

We breeders seldom see a cent for our royalties, isnt it so Kyle? Especially when large growers come and ask you for a free cutting or trade for a plant of no value. Later they have it in their cataloge, priced up to $20 a piece or more and you have none......

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika...several growers are selling my brugs at $20 or more per cutting and I get nothing. One grower has sold tons of my plants in the last few years and still want more new hybrids everytime I ask for the plants they promised me. So I know what you mean..would be nice to at least get something I could use for breeding in exchange for my plants.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Monika, Kyle, and all ..
I have run into this problem, also. Breeder bascially gets nothing.
The middle person gets the money.
Patenting/trademarking costs alot. If really special, then hopefully that will bring good return.
But some I know who did this still are not making money and the costs yet to recover.

What I am hearing best is to grow a ton of your good plant before release. Then put out yourself or
contract with someone you can trust to treat you well for a good return.
All I know .. (o:

Alice.....!!!!!What a novel idea!!..I never thought about that..either that or charge a high price for the first few..then don't worry about it after that. thanks for the idea!! :-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I was thinking once the Brugmansia society really gets going ,couldn't there be a place for people to order Hybrids right from the Hybridizer?Have it read like " Buy your brug directly from the Hybridizer! Don't buy from a retailer who may or may not be selling you a charles Gramaldi and its really a Juntner orange"( or something along those lines.)Support your local Hybridizer!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

CC, there are tricks, these retailers use, some surprises you really. They have relatives or friends, which order the Brugs, they want, from you and thats the way, they get it.
Some of these advertise in ads like; buy from the breeder,
and only you know, that all what they had been breeding were B. suaveolens hybrids or repeated sucsessful crosses of Mme Blin or mine.

I think and hope, that qualified knowledge and advice will depart the good from the bad peas, but until then, brug fancier must learn their ' lesson '.

Monika, these are very mean tricks. I think, that even, if we form the BHGA it would be very difficult to control a situation like this ... maybe Brugmansia hybridizers should have their own magazines, where to publicice new hybrids. This together with a rule, that similar crosses will not be accepted are maybe a way to go ... I don`t know ...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I dont believe, that this practice can be stopped in any way, Tonny. At the moment, there are things going on in the german group, which make me think about leaving it.

It must be very bad, since you consider leaving ... good we have DG. I can`t imagine any bad things to happen here :)

Maybe doing like Kyle mentioned, that is to sll new hybrids at the highest price would be the best way to go or that hybridizers only use approved nurseries to distribute (BHGA_Idea).
