Tell Me More!

Ladysmith, BC(Zone 8a)

I wonder if you would like to tell me something special about your town, city or state.

I have visited a lot of countries in the world and a lot of states and provinces, but PLEASE tell me what is special about your home area. Were you born there or did you move there?

I was originally born in what was then Rhodesia, Southern Africa and somehow arrived in Canada in the mid 1960's.

I now live in "Beautiful" British Columbia, one of our claim to fames is Whistler, voted the best snow skiing in the world (can't remember which year that was 1998 or 1999!)

I lived in Vancouver for 12 years and you can snow ski in the morning and bask in the sun on the beach in the afternoon - the ski hills are only about 30 minutes away and the beach a stones throw.

We are also known for our 'movie' industry, and are called Hollywood West. Our best known TV show was 'X-Files', sadly they returned to California for shooting, when the star was married, they used to shoot a lot of the episodes in the local hospital, which was next door to where we lived. Was great to see them setting up every couple of months for a 'shoot'.

I now live on Vancouver Island, which is the largest island on the west coast. To get to the mainland you have to take a ferry, and depending where you take it from it takes either 1 1/2 hours or 2 hours. Also BC has the larges ferry fleet in the world.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Greetings from beautiful west Kentucky,USA

I live about 5 minutes from Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. Our town of Benton has about 5000 residents if you count all of the cats and dogs.We have a great tourist destination area with all of the water here and The largest city in our area is Paducah, about 40 minutes from me. It is home to the Museum of the American Quilter's Society. They are having their annual show and contest in about a month and there will be about 175,000 visitors from all over the globe taking part in the festivities.

My little town(I live about 5 minutes out in the country) will be celebrating it's 152nd annual Tater Day the first Monday in April. Originally,it was for folk to come and trade sweet potato sets, mules, hunting dogs..etc. But now it consists of a giant flea market, parade and carnival.

I was born in this county and my ancestors settled here in the early 1800's. They came from further east in KY and were among the first 16 families to settle what is now Louisville,KY in 1778. So you can say I'm a true Kentucky native.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I also live in Washington State, Vancouver, very close to Karma. Before I moved to Vancouver, I lived across the river in Portland, Oregon, and up until 6 months ago worked in Portland, but hated the commute - in the middle of the day it would take 20 minutes to go to downtown portland, but in the morning rush hour traffic it would take an hour, and it was bumper to bumper. I dont miss that one bit, my next job is in Vancouver, 15 minutes away from my home, I'm very excited about that.
I was born and raised in Turkey, my husband is Turkish. We like living in Vancouver, but get tired of the rain and lack of sun, both of us being from a warmer climate we miss it.
