Brugie, my makeup mirror is round and has a bright flourescent light around in a circle and it moves, so I move it to the downward position so it shines on the table directly and put the baggie right under the lights. I do this cause I don't have a heat mat. A heat mat, plus bright light would probably do the job. Today, I found a baggie with some tacoma in a coffee filter that I had forgotten about--- it was just laying on the end of my dining room table, not under lights or on heat, and has been there probably a week or more; I opened it and the seeds were already putting out seed leaves and had long stems for roots, so I stuck them in the ground. Don't know if they'll do anything, cause the root part was a light tan instead of white, but we'll see. Roz

Thanks Roz, I have a mat with lights, so I'm going to try your method. Just one more challenge!!

Brugie, I have plenty more seeds if you want more. Or I can bring you a Yellow Bells plant. Or both. You are coming to Florida, Huh?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We are going to try, but will be flying. I don't think we will be bringing plants, but just want to meet you all. If I can rig up a small carry on, I might bring some things I have promised to some, but that is down the line yet.

My seeds are a couple years old now. I don't even know if I need to grow this plant, but figured I could try during these cold and gray days.

Brugie, If you want, I'll bring you some candlestick seeds at the swap. They say this plant will grow in a pot, and you would like it , I think. Something to cheer up the dark gloomy days. I have a friend from Davenport, Iowa, and when they get spring there it is heavenly. They have four full seasons; I think that would ge nice to have; we have spring, long summer, short winter.

Roz, if you have an extra tacoma, I would like one. I'm not sure I know what it is, but it sounds pretty. Let me know what else you want me to bring. (besides the list I brought from your house)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala, didn't I send you the "fresh" Tacoma Stans seeds when I sent all the junk you had to go through? It seems like I did, but I've been wrong a couple of times in my life. I just happened to find these old ones and I'm going to give them a shot because I like the blooms on this plant a lot.

Is tacoma stans "yellow bells"? If so, I think you did send it and I've already planted it in the green house. (short term memory is gone)

Thanks Roz I'm not sure what I am bringing but if nothing ealse a I.O.U .....

Roz,
Is the Candlestick Plant the same thing as a Cassia Tree? I had one two years ago and I loved it. It was too big to bring in though so I gave it to one of our local florist shops. I didn't get any seeds from it because it bloomed so late in the season. I'd love to try some seed if you have any extra. Can send you a SASE right away.

Roz, If this is the same as the cassia alata, I received some in a trade, but no directions on how to grow them. I thought I had read somewhere that you soak them in salt peter first before you plant. True or not, do I do anything special with them?? Dee

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Shut up me.I am not going to touch that one.I refuse to comment on that. Not me.

Dee,
I'm not Roz but yes, the Candlestick is the Cassia Alta....and I have never soaked the seeds in salt peter before planting them....I did however clipped them and soaked over night in water before I planted them.

JT....did I answer that ok. lol

Down here where I live, when the seed pods open and the seeds fall to the ground there will be hundreds of baby plants come up all by themselves. I have also know people that used RoundUp to control all the seedlings. I think they are beautiful and I just got some seedlings that a friend of mine told me that I could pull up all that I wanted (she is the one that uses RoundUp). I will be careful and try to keep them contained. Maybe a large pot would be an ideal place. They are truly pretty. If anyone wants any, I will be glad to get some and send to you.

BrugNanny,

Do you think you could hold a couple of seedlings for me until the weather warms enough to mail them out? You know my email address......

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh, me too???

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

tiG, I'll bring you one to the swap. Brugie, email me your address and I'll get seeds right to you. Dee, you may find it easier to get candlestick germinate if you put them in a wet coffee filter and put under a light for a few days, them plant. That's what I do, and after a few days they begin to srout out and I plant and they are fine. Want me to bring you one at the swap?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

thanks Roz!! time to start a new thread, but I'll link back to this one so we can try and keep track of plants.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Brugie I will send you a couple of seedlings when the weather warms up. Just let me know when you are ready for them.

tiG, I see that Roz is going to take care you at the swap. If there is anything else that you can think of - just ask.
