Do we need to change date, time, place? does anyone actually have illegal brugs? and would vicki really try to send the brug police?
this pic was taken 5/27 after the plant, a stick in june, 2000, was frozen back completely to the ground.

thats the most beautiful stick I ever saw!!!

Very pretty stick, Arlene:) Sure wish I was in a warmer climate....oh well

I personally would like to see date time and place kept off the boards. g2s and Dee have been working it out. Did I lose my trust? you bet! do I have illegal brugs? NO
As far as the rest of what we want to do at the swap, plants and such, I love to see that here, cause it might prompt me with something else I want to bring.

(Zone 6a)

tiG, you worry too much:) the brug police won't be there, and you are all legal anyway, so what's to worry about? just relax and have fun....that's what this is all about:)

tiG, After what happened to Cala I think it would be a good idea to keep the place and time off the board. It seems that there are friends of hers here with the same beliefs and ideas and I don't think anything here would have trouble finding there way to her.JMHO

I don't have any illegal brugs. I would feel more comfortable without the time and place being public. If nothing else, for safety reasons.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm not even going and I think your better off keeping alot of the detail off the board.Wish I could go but I'm still working on Chuck to get to go to the BIG one......

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I don't think any of us have illegal Brugs. As far as the place goes,it is very public so there certainly should be no safety concerns.
It absolutely does not matter to me whether the place and time are posted to the forum or not.Consider this.So many people already know and many others are asking that if Vicki wanted to find out she certainly could.
We will be bringing a variety of plants and no one will be bringing imports. The worst that could happen is that some
government type could show up and shut us down.Who really cares. We are going down the road to Earl's later anyway.
We will also be in the parking lot of a restaurant at some point. If we come to swap we will get it done.
All the Florida inspectors I have met are nice, helpful folks. They require licenses if you are SELLING plants to the public.
When you think about it,if she turns in one more false report they may just decide to lock her up.One can hope.

Doesn't matter to me either.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

G2S, have to say it one more time, i like your mind! I do understand why people wouldn't want to go through the hassle if people did show up, throwing us off schedule or something.

Ditto.... we are not selling and we are not in the busniess of selling plants. DON'T BE TERRORIZED!!!! We realy have nothing to fear

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I am not going to this but I would love to be able to. It is too far for me. I wish I was the kind of person who is adventerous and just gets a road map and takes off - but I am sorry to say that I am not. I have read some of your posts and I think that all of you are going to have a lot of fun and it will be so personal for those of you who have not met. ENJOY!!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

no bother to me either...im just a passenger, with nothing but store bought marigolds, lol
i do have to say that i am concerned about the brug police showing up. all of us there will know that the brugs are just breaking dormancy and some may be bitten by late frosts, etc, and im concerned that they may show up and "think" they have a virus not knowing what they are looking for

If this comes up two times, I'm sorry. Seems to be taking so long to come up. I sent it before, I thought.

Wish you all the luck in the world, sounds like so much fun. Sorry, I can't be there.

I too, think this should be amoung honest friends and traders. No need to post the time and place!

Have lots of fun!!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

You know this is America and I can't believe that a group of dedicated gardeners are even considering a secret swap for fear of the plant police. We live in America and some fought and gave their lives for us to be free. Please don't send me an email telling me of a secret meeting because I will not attend. Probable couldn't make it anyway but just wanted to remind ya'll that you are giving up what some have died for you to have the right to have.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm not worried about anyone getting into trouble. I don't want the hassle. Whatever you guys want is fine with me. Secret, not secret, I'm there.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I don't want a hassle either. I also thought we were free.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I, too, don't want a hassle. None of us do. However, if I am detained, hasseled or any way detained from meeting with my friends and exchanging plants that I have taken from my greenhouse, then I probably will want to call my lawyer, who is my nephew. However, I am certainly receptive to any change we may decide to make regarding location, etc. It is sometimes best to avoid potential problems if we can, though we are not forced to do this; it just may be prudent, but totally our decision. If I thought there may be a crazy person in the area, I would most certainly want to change locations.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I am new, and see both sides. Lets make the swap fun, unencumbered and in the backwoods and safe from all harm.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

So, does anybody want any banana plants when we meet at the swap? How about bleeding heart? What????????? Please don't make me take my measly little plants back home. Does anybody want any houseplants? Asparagus fern? Bromeliads? My husband?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

not my husband-----i got carried away.

Roz,
Been working on your plants for the swap? Jen said she was going to go buy a flat of marigolds for the swap. LOL

You know I don't have one of those ferns....save one for me...please.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey a bleeding hartplant would look good hanging off you linai next to my sweetpotato vine

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Ok, bleeding heart with your name on it Irish, and Glory you got an asparagus fern. Now I only owe you 43 more plants to be even! If my seeds continue to do as well as they are now, I should have candlestick plants. Phillipine violets, and yellow bells (tacoma) plus pineapple sage. If they do not continue to do well, I should have bananna plants, asparagus and one bleeding heart ( the other one goes to Irish).

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Roz, how do you plant your tacoma seeds? I've tried with no luck. Someone told me to plant them on their edge, up and down, and that didn't work either.

Shirley

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Roz, do you know what kind of bananas you have? i am interested in yellow bells, although mine did not come back from last winter, like to try again. i went to that site that dee gave me, saw a "pink" banana that's supposed to fruit in one year, anyone know anything about it?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I don't know anything about bananas either, but want to try. Roz, are your bleeding hearts the cleredendron's or the little ones with the feathery kinda leaves?? I have the cleredendron type but not the other. Dee

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have dicentra, real bleeding hearts in pink or white. Roz, I wasn't trying to jump in on your trade, so forgive me if I did.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Roz, if you have a fern left and maybe a banana, I would love to have one!! Don't worry if you don't, but sounds like you won't have a problem coming up with something to trade.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

roz, i have heard the candlestick bush is awesome too if you have enough.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yeah, yeah, one of those!! LOL, I've got to get busy or I'm not gonna have anything nice enough for all these great things you guys are bringing.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Gosh, y'all make me so happy that you may want what I have; now I can really get excited about the swap now that I have something to swap.
Brugie, I put the tacoma in wet coffee filters , put in a baggie, and put them under my make up mirror (turned down) for about 2 or 3 days. Then I put them on top of the soil and barely put pressure on them, I don't cover with dirt or sand or anything; Then I put on the plastic and wait til they poke through and then they are off and running. If I will leave the cover on long enough, all will root, or most of them will.

Dee, my bleeding heart is dicentra, white with red; Calla, thanks for jumping in have any extra pink and white?

Arlene, the bananas are the plain green ones. Mine will fruit if they grow for eighteen months, and have bloomed many times.

tiG, I've got plenty of fern and I'll keep a cnadlestick for you and Arlene. I should have plenty of them. They will be in 4inch pots, but you may have to let them get a little bigger before you plant. Don't know how big they will be by swap time, but they already have the second set of true leaves and are about 4in. tall now and trying to sprout more, so they'll be ready.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Roz, you are doing good, my candlesticks just poked thru the soil. I will bring you a pink and a white bleeding heart. I have 2 little starts of climbing hydrangea if anyone wants one. I will also bring some passifloras if anybody wants some. You can email me for the list of varieties.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I would love a climbing hydrangea.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Do you guys hear me sniviling?????(just kidin)(no, I'm not)

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

CC, Don't ya wish sometimes we lived a little further south. It sounds like it will be so much fun.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I don't wish it sometimes,I wish it all the time.Sad isent it!Maybe we can have a swap with you me and poppysue,we'll meet at logees

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Sounds cool but it might be better to wait till the weather is better in the north. I hate driving in the snow and Massachussetts is usually black ice.DH promised me a trip to Logees but so far on his days off it has snowed.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Roz. I am a little dense here. By putting under your make up mirror, do you mean that you weight them down or what?
