Clitoria(butterfly pea)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I got some seeds for a white butterfly pea,I also have unknown butterfly pea.Not real sure how to start them(you guys know I suck at this

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

File the seeds with a nile-file a little, then soak the seeds for 24 hours in warm water... Sometimes the filing is not necessary. Although, I use it for many seeds with hard coat.

I will also try clitoria this spring :)

Crestedchik where did you find the white one? I had the blue last year and really loved it frost got it before I could get seeds from it but I would love to try the white. All I did with the seeds last year was like TiG soaked them in warm water for 24 hours.

The Agway in town sells "Plants of Distinction" seeds. They are leftovers from last year, and he won't mark them down, but I loved the plants that the seed company carries.$3.50 a pack is steep for last years seeds but,I'm a sucker for a pretty plant, and there are only 12 seeds in the pack.Otherwize I'd share.Since I stink at seed starting I need all the cushion I can get.If youd like ,for 3.50 I could go get you a pack.If I get all of them to grow I can send you one(I find that highly unlikly though,I will be lucky to get 3 or 4)They had some really neat seeds. They had 2 different hellebours,a double cream datura, and lots of others but at 3.50 a pack,I can't go crazy.....

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I just soaked mine overnight and planted them. Seems like the fresher the seed, the faster they come up.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

just checked, the double blue I got from Dinu were planted the 23rd, and they've been up at least two days now. I just soaked in hot water overnight. Did the double whites the day before and they aren't up yet.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I got some white ones from Banana Tree Farms. Only problem with that place is that there is a minimum order of $8 or something like that. I know that doesn't sound like much, and it isn't if you find other things you want, but I had a little trouble finding a lot of things to make $8's worth.

I'm new here at DG, but noted the question on Clitoria, or lady pea. I bought them last year from Seymour's Seeds. They were the white variety, and I soaked them prior to planting in the spring. They came up nicely! I eventually got them transplanted into the four inch pots. However, we had to go away suddenly for a two week trip and the poor dears died from lack of water, having been blown out of their "watering box" by a strong gust of wind. It is terrible to have to leave new baby plants! I lost several during that little trip away. I hope to find a clitoria plant at some point.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I found that knicking & soaking helps. In fact I've left them right in the water til they sprouted a root. I should have few seedlings in the spring to share providing we have no disasters. I have the blue, double blue, white, and I just got some double white. I'll probably only keep one of each for myself.

Highland Park, IL(Zone 5a)

Mine, the purple, germinated in wet paper towel. I only got about 3 so far, but it worked well, and I think the whole seed pack will eventually sprout this way. I would love a source for purchasing the white or any double. Thanks.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Half of mine germinated and they are about a foot tall!!I'm so happy!
