How's Your mail?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Just curious. I know my PO office has been turned upside down with a major RE-org... and the service stinks! I wonder if you all are having similar problems in other parts of the country?

I encourage anyone with problems to fill out the complaint cards. They think everything is hunky-dory if the public doesn't complain... and therefore no reason to correct fowl ups. I could write a book griping about it....

It's getting pretty bad here too Sue' Mail is being lost, returned ripped open,no explainations' We're not being reorganized though' The post lady is more interested with gabbing than doing her job, mail in wrong boxes etc. We mailed on the way to work the other day at 3am' After returning home, picked up our mail,ha. Some of our mail to be "mailed out"was back in our box??? We are tracking everything now, major HEADACHE' We don't have "auto pay" at our bank, because they're inept also and that's an understatement,ha' But then we live where on the prettiest days,no wind anything,we lose power,go figure' Yes,I do report bad service but wish more folks would also' Thanks for letting me vent, needed it this morning' Sis'

Sis, I think you should have gotten the PO! You have already heard my rant about the poor service here, but it has always been so. And before I moved here, it was the same story or as bad in Austin. I have tried the complaint route, it only yielded me the antagonism of the lazy employees who were at the bottom of it. Oh, I got good promises, but we know talk is cheap, you know the rest.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Aimee' I do appreciate it and know I could have made a difference' I haven't given up,just regrouping for now,so to speak, lol'

Wow, we must be really fortunate. We've known our various mail carriers on a first-name basis for years, as well as several employees at the main post office. They've been very helpful there, especially, with all my eBay stuff. Our service has been fine -- The only time we have damaged mail is when Sarah catches it as it's coming in our mail slot! Of course, when your dog acts like this every time the mailman comes up your walk, you're bound to be remembered, LOL: http://davesgarden.com/showthread/177647.html

I made Mailman Dan a card last year with a picture of Sarah daydreaming about biting a mailman - he took it to work and they got a good laugh out of it.

The mail has gotten really slow here too. I mailed a priority mail package to Cinn, OH it took 4 days it used to be a regular letter would get there the next day. Mailed something to Evert it took him a month to get it. I have no complaints against my mail carrier he is great but the service has sure gotten really slow.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, come to think of it, we mailed a package to Dave back before Thanksgiving, and it was almost Christmas by the time he got it. That was by media mail, which I know is often slower - but a whole month? I just chalked it up to the holiday rush.

Think we could coax MaryE to start us all up another "Pony Express"lol,,by golly that gal can ride like the wind''

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I mailed 2 packages to Norway on Dec.11th. One arrived there in plenty of time for Christmas. The other got there MONDAY !!!

Yep, This Monday. Try explaining that to 3 kids with presents scattered among the two boxes!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Melody, you must have my mail carrier's sister picking up your mail. How they can justify this is beyond me.

Mansfield, MO(Zone 6a)

We are lucky too. Generaly never lose anything and get things on time. One of my bills seems to be "late" every once in a while, but I took to looking at when they send it versus when they say they sent it and guess what....LOL was not the P.O. fault. Go figure.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Poppysue... I have to say, in general, I have few complaints. The folks at our local post office are overworked, and perhaps underpaid (though not here where most wages are all low)... and the lines are quite long, but in general they seem to deal with the chaos and still be friendly to us. I do think mail delivery to my house is slower than it was, esp. since before the Holidays.

The only thing I have really noticed makes me laugh, even tho' not a laughing matter. There was a clerk in our small branch office in our small town who started wearing surgical gloves. He wasn't the friendliest of clerks either, moving slower than molasses. Anyway, yesterday the lines were longer than usual, and the other clerks said he had quit. I can see no threat here in this small town, so thought it was amusing he was so fearful. I can understand it if he was in NY, DC, Chicago, or some other even moderately large city, but I don't think we should let fear get out of hand.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

We have great postal service here :) Letters arrive fast and I've never had any problems. The prices are pretty high though.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

By the way, when I traded this and last month with people in USA the mail has been much more slow than earlier. But - some of the letters have arrived in 2-4 days.. Maybe it is just about the mail planes etc.

We live in the country and have no complaints with our mail service here. Our mail is always on time and the most it's ever been late is 15 min. and that is when we had icy roads but otherwise it is always here at 10 AM and sometimes earlier. In our small community; everyone is on a first name basis and very friendly. In our community where we live; lets see,we have a post office,1 gas station/with a few grocery items and restaurant all in one (the farmers hang-out to have their morning coffee)they have 2 hugh smokers out front where they smoke their own meat for sandwiches there, and have 3 small churches and a new elementary school that just opened last fall. Oh yes, our volunteer fire department and also the office for the Sheriff.
Nope, No complaints on this end about our postal service.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Im my case, I have to put my fingers crossed after putting an envelope in the post box, until I hear from the other end that it has reached. Nobody knows where the thing vanishes. There has been some reported incidents that some postal staff remove the stamps from the mailed envelope for their own use before it has to be 'cancelled'. That's why they ask the customers to see that it is cancelled before them at the counter, esp. the envelopes having a higher value. If we don't do that, then we have to PRAY.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Dinu, I know your post office... any of the cards we send from Goa arrived. :( Why people have to be so mean and unfair?

Yes Dinu,we are getting mail returned with stamps removed' The correspondence was removed, ripped, pieces missing and then taped shut' Curious???

Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

No problem here! We live in the country too and we haven't had any trouble.

Memphis, TN

Okay I have to jump in here. To ans. the question our mail service is great and I never get complaints from my customers. And yes over worked and under paided could be a problem. I do not know of any carrier that intends to mess up the mail, but know it does happen. If 2 or 3 people call in sick, well someone or 2-3 people end up running that route that have no clue of the route. And on another note, Please do not park your cars, put your trash cans etc. where your mail carrier can not get to your box. We do not get paid to get out and walk to your box. And this could cause your mail person to get very frustrated and mess up. For the ones here who work or have worked for the PO know this is no easy job. We do not just get in our jeeps and ride up and down the street and stick mail in boxes. Sorry some of you are having problems, for the most part we do try(most of us anyway)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Icebud, I wish I had a carrier with that attitude. My box is on a county road, on the fence post, and has been there since long before she was here. One of the substitutes is a really nice guy, but the regular carrier just seems not to try. Or seems to try, to be obstinate. To my face, everything is fine, but there is no escaping the actual performance after several years. And there is so much infighting in the post office, you can sometimes feel the tension. Petty little people, with pitiful lives.
