Have any of you ever been to Punxsutawney, PA to see Punxsy Chuck see his shadow (or not) on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2?

I live about 40 minutes to the north of Punxsy, and I was down there a couple of years ago on a run to the Historical Society to do some research. It just happened to be Groundhog Day the day that I went.

Wow- what a madhouse! I couldn't believe how many people were in that small town just to see a rodent! Seems that since the Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day" came out, folks flock to the town from all over the country every February 2.

I loved that movie, although I must say it could easily drive a person up a wall!

I love that movie, too. Such a sweet ending. I'm curious to see the town, but I hate crowds! Plus it's too doggoned cold!

Well, I guess I should 'fess up. It's one of my favorite movies, and favorite holidays. Why? Because... it's also my birthday :)

Oh! Do you see your shadow, Terry?

I try really hard to never see my shadow. Unfortunately some years, I apparently see it despite my best efforts not to ;0)

Oh, Terry! *GRIN* We have our own "Dave's Garden Groundhog"! *GRIN* PLEASE try RE-E-E-E-E-E-E-EAL hard this year not to see your shadow, would you? I'm getting sick of winter. I've got a pair of dark sunglasses you could wear, but it's better if you just keep looking UP that day. ;-)

IndaShade, I grew up in Cambria County near Ebensburg. You anywhere near there? When I go to visit family we sometimes go to a church picnic in Punxy, but never to see Phil and his shadow.

One of my favourite films too. Saw it with my Dad.

I have really only seen parts of the movie-- never the whole thing. I understand that only part of it was actually shot in Punxsutawney (and some of it in the midwest), but the movie looks like the whole thing was shot in Punxsy.

The Punxsutawney Historical Society has a part of its' museum set up with an exhibit of stuff that they collected while they were filming there-- an autographed script, a director's chair, etc. It's really neat.
