Vegetable Garden Layout

Does anyone have any links to garden plans, as to what should go where for best results?

That would be interesting if there were plans. I've read that you should plant some things close together and some things shouldn't be planted beside each other. The only one I can remember though is "dill and cucumbers go well together in a pickle jar, but not in the garden."

Do you mean like companion planting? I came across the best site the other day!

If that's not what you meant, please let me know what you DID mean so I can try to help! :-)

With apologies to Martha Stewart, companion planting is probably a "good thing" (at least to a certain degree.)

I use a modified square foot garden method, and plan my garden based on two considerations:

1. I try to make sure that - given the orientation of my garden to the summer sun's pattern - I don't plant tall stuff where they will block light from shorter things.

2. I rotate my crops: peppers and tomatoes don't go back in the same spot they were last year. Ditto for cantaloupes, cucumbers, and melons. A note in your online garden journal here, or even jotting it on a scrap piece of paper will help you remember "what went where" when you plan future gardens.

Vols why are you apologising to M Stewart?

Veggie garden plans, hmm I grow mine where ever they will fit in, however, you could try a potager garden which look great and serve as a good veg garden too. A good vegetable growers book should include the information you need too.

Some good basic info may be found here
