Camellia--anyone know how to root cuttings??

Hope Mills, NC

Hi all,
I am new to Dave's Garden. Someone brought me Camellia cuttings yesterday and I really don't have a clue how to root them. Some of the cuttings have flowers on them and very new budding growth at the very ends. I assume these are what is known as hardwood cuttings (but I do have the little budding growths at the end, too). Please help. For now, I have simply re-cut them at an angle and placed in a vase with water pending instructions. Thanks in advance!

Hi Melody and welcome to DG! :)

There are several ways to propagate camellias. Here's some great info to get you started. Just pick the method you'd like to do:

Thanks for your prompt reply, Terri! I am not sure if these cuttings will work or not, but am going to give it a try :)

Hi Melody! Welcome to Daves. Camellia cuttings are so easy to root! You shouldn't have much trouble getting them started. I cut a branch off and stuck it in a pot of soil and it took--just like that! Lisa

Thanks Lisa,
All encouragement is greatly appreciated!!

Wow! Lisa. Is that really what you did? How big was the cutting and how big is the plant now?
