Fertilizing Butterfly Weed (asclepias tuberosa)?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I received some Butterfly Weed seed with instructions to start them as soon as the soil can be worked (it can be worked here now, zone 6). I am going to plant it on a steep bank, the way you used to see it growing wild until everyone dug it up. Should I fertilze it? What should I use?

Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

The butterfly weed I have is very hardy. I used a little "Peters" 20-20-20 on mine last year and it did well. I only fertilized once a month.

The butterfly weed is a weed and really doesn't need much added fertility unless you have awful soil. Most milkweed plant species like this one thrive in disturbed sites of average to low fertility and get by with deep tap root systems.
