List your tropicals

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It would be interesting to see what we are all growing.
I have gingers, passifloras, brugs and orchids. I also have some tender cannas that I keep inside so they will multiply faster and several varieties of taro.

Brugs, one tiny blue ginger and butterflies, passionflowers, clerodendrums (thinking they are tropical, I have them inside for the winter)
One pitiful orchid that is starting to turn yellow.

I see more I forgot....clivia, bird of paradise, (abutilons, brugs and taros are hardy for us here, but I do bring some in just in case)vigna and clitoria, I completely forgot about any cacti and succulents.
CC, I have a few orchids that could be described as "half-dead" wonder if that's a new variety?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

BTW, only tropicals I have bought are the Dracaenas, Anthurium, and cacao tree (Theobroma). Others I have grown from seeds which I have collected, gotten in a trade, or from cuttings which I have gotten :)

What is a frogbit?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

In North Dakota it's really hard to have tropicals, but I have one Canna that's in a pot in my mother in law's basement that I'm hoping will survive and come back next year. Does that count? LOL!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, frog bit looks like a miniature floating waterlily.
JoanJ, of course that counts!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

is frogbit hardy?? how bout duckweed??

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Duck weed is WAY hardy!!Don't know about frogbit,I'll know in the spring,it took over my mud pond, ooppss,I mean duck pond,it was nicer looking than algea. Calla,I think it is a variety(half dead) wonder what it is in latin?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Well, now I have to go on a search. Can't stand it when I can't visualize something. Thanks for the info.

Just did a search...that stuff looks like it could be invasive. Did you know that there is software called Frogbit also?

Brugie, you have to be careful doing those searches. You won't believe what I found when I typed in "coleus".

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like maybe something I don't want to know about. I did a search on cybermom once and that was a bad idea too. One of my kids had told me there would be some great sites for me and yeah, there were great sites, but when I start seeing 4 letter words like the ones on the site lists, I backed out really quick. I'm not a prude, but I don't need that.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yeah, some things we just don't want to see. I'm not a prude either, but I don't write like that, don't use those words in everyday speach and don't care to read them!! Some of the sites for plants were promoting drugs and other illegal activites. One site was a porno site!! I don't need that and neither does my daughter need to come into the room and see something like that on the screen.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I found the same type of junk when I was looking for seeds from Hawaii.I typed a search for hawiain plants and was shocked at the type of things that came up.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I grew some last year in pots, then planted in the ground in the fall, I see sticks out there. So far, we have had a real nice winter, waiting for the shoe to drop. They should make it through winter ok.

Hibiscus, the hardy hibiscus are very hardy, just slow to come up in the spring. They are one of the last things to put on new growth. If you don't see anything coming up at first, don't panic they're late sleepers.

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Gosh! I seemed to have collected quite a few tropicals this past year. Last year all I really had were a couple of houseplants, LOL.

In the greenhouse: Abutilon, clitoria, cane begonia, brugs, gingers, passiflora's, plumeria, several different sedums, taro's.

Of course in the house I have houseplants pothos, hawiian spider plants, cactus, christmas cactus, ficus, rhoeo, patchouli, several different aloe's.
