At last count we have 1,400+ companies in the Garden Watchdog, and I'm not yet through scouring the Internet. (But I'm getting much closer, LOL.)
But only 11% of the companies have been rated. It would be great if we could rate several more companies this month, before seed/plant ordering begins in earnest for most of us. (Maybe even double the percentage?)
Still reluctant? Think about how you felt the first time you ordered from an "unknown" company. Wouldn't you have liked to have seen a rating and a comment about them before you took the plunge? It might have made you more confident in placing your order, or made you think twice BEFORE you got stung. So let's let others learn from our lessons, both good and bad.
(And just in case anyone is wondering, let me be perfectly clear: PLEASE rate only those companies you have personal experience with.)
So let's get in there and increase the percentage of companies that have a rating, okay? Who knows - you might even find a new company to try this year!
Are you up for a challenge?
go-vols, I just spent the last hour going through the Garden Watchdog site and although I only was able to expand the ratings by one I was in awe of the amount of information you have compiled(and the WORK involved!!) If any members haven't viewed this part of DG please do- it is truly amazing.Given some time to develop, this is going to be an invaluable resource for any gardener who shops by mail or seeks out new sources of plant material. If each of us contributes information each time we deal with a vendor(good experience or bad) what a goldmine of information! Thank you for all your hard work. Melissa
Second the GOOD JOB here...kikisdad. Makes a great reference
Thanks for the kind words, ya'll. I'm starting to think it could prove dangerous for my budget to research all these seed and plant companies (grin)
A quick status update, we're now up to more than 1,580 companies. A few interesting slices of the database reveals there are...
...261 daylily sources listed (that could do REAL damage to my pocketbook);
...160 sources for vegetable seed (you know we're supposed to eat 9 servings every day, so guess we better get growing);
...133 Canadian-based companies...
and the list goes on and on and on. But now we need to "feed" the Watchdog with some ratings (groan - bad pun, I know!)
Please take a peek, as there's bound to be something new in there you haven't seen yet. And it's very easy to add a rating and comment - no excuses!
