Woke up this morning to a winter wonderland! We have about 5 inches and it is still snowing. At first Misty was barking at the snow and wouldn't set foot (paw?) off the porch. We took her out into it and she would take a step, then sniff her paw, take another step and sniff her paw again! She is such a character. lol As soon as daylight gets here I think I will go out and make a snowman and take some pictures of nature's artwork too.
Snowing in Virginia
Still snowing here also. I don't think I will build a snowman however. They are predicting 2-3 more inches today and stopping tonight after dark. Post those photos.
Jim, how much snow have you have? I haven't measured the snow here for a few hours, but I just saw on the news that there is 9"-15" here in Surry. It is supposed to slacken up for awhile, but it hasn't yet, and we are supposed to get more snow later today. The folks closer to oceanside are expected to get freezing rain and sleet later on, so I'll just sit here and count my blessings along with the snowflakes. ;o)
Yea, yea, yea.......it's here!! :-(
I sent it on to you and Lousia.LOL
We have about 6-7 inches now. I think they change the prediction every few minutes. Earlier it was going to snow all day and quit after dark tonight. The latest is it will quit the middle of the afternoon. What happened to the photos you were going to make and how did the snowman turn out. Put Andy out making the snowman and you take the picture and take credit for it.LOL
Louisa...doesn't sound like you're too happy with the snow. I hated it when I lived in Ohio bc I had to drive in it. I can remember driving in snow higher than the bottom of my car door. Got stuck a lot too. Ah, the good ole days. Now I just enjoy it. Don't worry...springtime and sunshine and green grass will be here before you know it. It's rest time...Have a GREAT day all........vic
Gee Thanks Jim!!! A great day for missing the dental appointment...yeehaw!! I am going to confess Vic - I love to look at it and the trees in the garden are shimmering beautifully - I just don't like being in it!! Just cooked a lovely breakfast - yes, quite late!! Needed some aroma to waft through on a cold day. Stay warm and hang in there Carol!!
Louisa,
You have snow?
Sounds like a perfect soup day!
Snuggled up in front of a fire with a good book, kitties curled up confortably in your lap, mug of hot cocoa on the side table, plate of cookies next to it, fire crackling...oh no spark flew out of fireplace and on to brand new carpet, Louisa is your carpet white?
Ha, Pebble! That sounds like a wonderful day, mmmmmmm. I'm reading Amy Tan's "The Hundred Secret Senses" and I have two kitties and a dog who would love to curl up onmy lap. DH and I had a fire going the other night and a spark popped out through the mesh screening and flew a good 5' into the livingroom! It was out before it hit, though...whew! Dark green berber here. ;o)
Tim in answer to your question - yes, we do have snow but don't let it stop you from moving here - it's not going to hang around, probably out of here tomorrow!!! And pebble watch that carpet - haven't you heard of fireguards...lol!! I have creamy white carpets in the bedrooms but a sort of berber in the family room - why do you ask??? Now I am curious!! What colour is yours then??
mine is a light tan - I had you figured for white/cream colored carpets - no reason to ask, just wondering....
I will need to change carpeting pretty soon - I'm thinking of a berber for the family room also.
Gardenwife, I enjoy Amy tan's books, but havent read the one you're reading, i think I'll go to the library on my way home tonite and put a hold on that one.
happy reading and cuddling up next to the fireplace
Pebble I am up to my neck in Christmas decorations and really am doing a good job of it for a change. No more hunting for stuff, everthing is being labelled..lol!! Yes, berber is so nice!! I have wood floors too, in the sunroom, foyer, dining room. DH is putting up the plantations shutters or is it blinds!! Doing a good job too and we've only been here since June...lol!! Sheesh over 6 months without them - what the heck else where we doing!!
Sorry - going off thread here :-)
lol louisa, sounds like you've been pretty busy. One day my christmas things will be labeled too...
:-)
Our dream is to replace every cardboard box in our basement with nice plastic storage tubs with snap-on or hinged lids. Mmmmmmm....Little by little! Both Quality Farm & Country stores are closing in our town, so maybe they'll have really good clearance prices. Oh Howie... (GW says musically)
hee-hee!!
What happened to Carol???
Snow, Snow, go away
so that we can come out to play!
BBRRRR...Please pass the Hot Chocolate....any popcorn around? Jo
Jim I should think Carol is cuddling up to her beloved Misty and her other beloved....anything to keep warm!!
Whew! The 2nd round of snow finally stopped about 9pm. I didn't get a chance to make a snowman after all. The weight of the snow was getting to be too much for our greenhouse, so I had to get a ladder and rake the snow off the top. The snow was blowing in my face the whole time, so needless to say that wasn't a fun job. The greenhouse is saved, along with the plants, so my efforts weren't in vain. We didn't lose power and probably won't unless someone slides and hits a pole causing the lines to go down. Adam had to pull two people out of a ditch on his way to work this morning, because there are snow drifts and ice on the roads. I'm just going to stick around the house today. The sun is coming out and maybe I can get some nice pictures after all.
Phew Carol, you must have worked up a sweat, even in all that cold. Thank goodness your efforts really did pay off!! Mind how you go now and be careful!!
Wow, Carol, how much snow did ya'll end up with? We got another 2 or 3 inches yesterday afternoon/nite...looks like over ft total. I had to shovel snow away from the sides of our g-house...it tends to slide off the top, then accumulates on the sides and pushes in on the plastic. But it was good exercise! Only took me and DW a bit more'n hr, while DD played nearby building and "igloo"!
And, fortunately like you, no power outage! Yay!!!
(Does your greenhouse have a solid roof? Like hard vinyl or something? Ours is a double-layer of g-house plastic and I can knock the snow off from the inside by hitting the roof with a garden rake or the like...it works really well.)
Shoe, we made it through this one ok didn't we? It sounds like you and your daughter had a ball! Our county received 9"-13" of snow as of yesterday evening and then we got another 1"-2". I think I ended up with about a foot. I was worried about putting too much stress on the pvc since the greenhouse was used, so that's why I raked it off the 12 mil poly. I think our greenhouse roof isn't as rounded on top as it appears to the eye, but then this homemade greenhouse wasn't built to endure such a heavy snow either. They are now predicting a snow/freezing rain mix here on Sunday night. Is that heading your way too?
Carol so sorry we will miss you tomorrow I am still planning on going. Its due to hit here late Sat night and Sunday.Hope I can beat it home. Will sure miss you. (((Carol7))) this is the hug I would give you tomorrow.
Carol...As of this minute, the Sunday storm they called for looks like it will turn to rain, very little snow, or ice. However, YOu know how them weatherfolks are!
Like you, I'm more concerned w/the freezing rain than I am the snow...that stuff is what really weighs on a g-house.
Glad you were out there getting exercise and saving your plants/g-house! Keep us posted!
We're finally going to get some snow tommorrow night. They're predicting 3 to 6. We really could use some moisture and a nice blanket for my garden!
And I actually went out and played in it like a young un!! Yes, this little lady actually threw snowballs yesterday...lol!! But no snowman - I was blinded by the brightness!!!
