very cold weather and I'm not happy

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

we have just had our coldest day of the year. on NYE the temperatures plumetted to -10C / 14F and it wiped out all my half hardy hardy geraniums and my whole collection of South African bulbs.

it has been so mild here recently that I let all these plants stay out side to get decent sunlight.

so there I was away to Belfast in the afternoon to join 20,000 at an outdoor dance event freezing my ***** off and not getting home until 2 pm the next day - go to bed around 6 - wake up the next day and the freeze is still on.

I suppose it's my fault in a way!

Oh that"s a shame Mark! I guess we live and learn. I know the weather has been weird lately so you really don't know what to do.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Sooo sorry,Mark!!! It's cold here as well in the Florida panhandle....weatherman says we might get snow flurries. Gosh...glad I'm not as cold as you!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh Mark, so sorry!!! we have a couple of inches of snow so I'm with you on the cold. Hope the dance was good :)

That's why I try to stick with the hardies. I hope you're able to replace all of these eventually. I'm shivering so much I'm having problems typing. My hands aren't going where they're meant to... It's COOOOOOLD!

Sorry to hear that Mark, is there no way you can save any of them? Anyway we can help at all?

The weather forcasts have been no help at all have they. It's not quiet so cold here but I wake up to frost on the inside of my windows, like a lot of people I don't have central heating and brrrr is it cold!

Mark, I know how you feel. I have been sick and did not realize the temps were going so low. I recently bought 192 mums from wal-mart at ten cents each. I had them all trimmed and getting ready to plant asome and share some with all of you. Right now they are under an inch of ice in those little pots and all I can do is pray for them. These were some of those new colors like the red one that is so pretty. At least I did not have alot of money in them but it breaks my heart to lose a plant. Well anyway just wanted you to know we understand. Right now it is 15F outside and windy. Janet

Mark,
I understand your devestation! We went up North this fall(early)and that night it got to a bitter 29-clear skies! When I returned 2 days later-tears poured! Brugs and everything wilted-my tuberose was just about to bloom-3 of them around my bench-TOAST! DEVESTATING! Brugs all came back-after they moved to the house! =] My fault-thought the weatherman was way off-to nice to get that cold! DAH!
hope things look good for your plants!!!

10 C = cold???????????????

Come on Mark... Don't speak like that, you should really walk with me on a cold day to school, ocne it was -22 C and very windy ---

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

yes but cold is relevant to where you live. we dont get weather like this. in really heavy snow the whole country comes to a standstill.

while in the US year before last my cousins were wrapped up in temperatures of 17C because it was cold! here in N Ireland that summer temperatures.

but I take your point.

Mark

roll on seed planting time again - only 12 weeks away
