Tongue hanging out!

Plymouth, MI(Zone 6a)

Up until now my favorite flower has been Angels Trumpet.
I have been sneaking around this thread for awhile and have never seen such beautiful flowers!!!!!!!
Can I grow Brugs here? (zone 6) What kind? What do they like and not like? Are they like Angels trumpets? What should I start with? Any info on this beautiful plant will be appreciated. Well I feel much better now that I am out of the closet so to speak! LOL Meems

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Te He Te He....another victim.Welcome and yes ,you can grow them in zone 6 ,but you have to winter them in the house,or take cuttings to bring in the house, they are a perrenial form daturas.....jump in girls!(and guys)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Actually meems, Brugs are angel trumpets, datura are devil's trumpets. but.... you can grow brugs but they won't be hardy, you'll have to do like most of us and bring them in during the winter, or take cuttings to start the next spring. Good to have you *in the club* !! As for what to start with, I've got several 'named but unlabeled' that I can take cuttings from for postage and when they bloom, someone here can identify them. Or someone will offer known named, I'm sure.
We got another one guys!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hi Meems,
Boy are you in for some fun now. Not only with the brugs but with all the people in this forum. It is a lot of fun here, and there is a lot to be learned from these brug growers. I'm fairly new to growing them too, but if I can help out with some starts for you later on, I'll sure do that. By the way, it's nice to meet you!!

Shirley

Hi Meems,
Are you in for a big surprise....these folks are one of a kind....you'll love it here. When you get ready to start collecting Brugs let us know....all it takes is postage and you'll have more then you know what to do with.
Welcome!!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Hi Meems, welcome to Brugs Annon. We gladly share our obsession, uuuhm, I mean plants just to get you hooked. Then you will search the globe for something we don't have to repay our kindness. This is how it works isn't it guys?
When you are ready, let us know.

Hi, my name is John/Pardancanda, and I am newly addicted too. I never saw it coming... it is insidious, sneaking up on you... It all started with one 'extra' cutting a garden friend included as an 'extra' with another trade... Then a seed trader mentioned brugs, and offered me a 'Frosty Pink'... Then someone else saw my posting (you know who you are!) and offered me a few more cuttings... Once you have three of anything, you are on your way to a collection. Never one to do anything halfway, now I am looking for seeds, not just to grow, but to attempt some genetic manipulation... If only that first cutting had not rooted so easily... Too late for regrets now... John

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Meems and John - this is deja vu all over again. I think everyone of us saw ourselves not too long ago in your post. The more you know the more you need. Wait until you see the flurry of activity that will be going on over the next few months. Orders have already been placed for spring, cuttings are rooting, seeds are still in the pods, crosses have been done.
I simply can't wait!!
Welcome!

(Zone 6a)

Welcome Meems and John. This is the best forum on the internet:) Everyone in here is just like brothers and sisters......nah, even better than that:)

I am re-arranging my basement right now.....to make room for more grow lights to raise more brugs. Might have to buy a bigger house next year!

It's definitely an addiction. There's no cure for it.When you see one of the double pinks or any of the new Brugs or one of the Brug growers pictures the symptoms start. It starts with glazed eyes, then the shaking begins, and if that's not bad enough that awful drooling starts. The only help for this is to FIND them and buy all that you can or hope that someone might have an extra cutting to share. Usually when your first Brugs arrive the symptoms will start to subside.
Welcome new addicts. :)

Woodstock, ON(Zone 6B)

Welcome Meems
I live in zone 6 too, across the border in Canada though. Southwest Ontario. Not too far from you. In zone 6 they have to be cut back and brought indoors to let them go dormant and then in spring, start watering them again, start with the fertilizer when it starts getting warm. Next year will be my first year in the ground because I now have enough to "sacrifice " one to the snow. They get bigger in the ground. Now its your turn to rope another victim into the fold. These are the best bunch of people to chitchat with. Annie

Welcome Meems and John! I am a brugaholic too...the addition came on slowly last spring and I have decided that there is no hope for me. I am lucky to be in this great club where there is so much support! These folks are the best!! I have cuttings rooting now for the new addicts.

Meems, just a suggestion, start a new thread here, asking for cuttings for postage. I still have the named unlabeled, if no one else has any right now.

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

Welcome, when my brug pods are ripe, I will post and offer them. Then you can grow from seed and cutting!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I should have plenty of cuttings in the spring and summer.

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Meems...welcome just want to tell you that the brug in the ground my still be saved maybe. Get some mulch and really cover it up if the roots don't freeze it may start to grow in the spring but don't worry we have all killed brugs and we all can help you replace yours and add to your collection.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok, here I come, I'm new here as of last night.
I only want every brug that is new and out there, I already have 30-40, so I really do need more!

Welcome Hibiscus
With you having 30-40 we might need to do some trading. I have about 50 of them right now but that changes weekly. What zone do you live in? This is a very friendly group .....I'm sure you will enjoy being a part of it.
Welcome again.
Gloria

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Welcome Hibiscus! Always room for one more, especially one who comes bearing brugs!

Liz,
I like that bearing Brug...you are so funny. LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

welcome Hibiscus!!! as always, I too am looking for that one I don't have! Maybe we could swap lists. Just click on anyone's name on the left to email them. Hope you won't think our group is too crazy, we're not. Just crazy enough:)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, I really am bearing brugs, tables(2), top of sewing machine cabinet, backroom, birdroom, backporch(enclosed), basement, top of grand piano. Did I miss any rooms??

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL!!! you're after my own heart!! I started to say a *girl* after my own heart, but since I'm not sure I won't:)
Don't let our resident professors scare you off, we can't all speak latin and tech! Most of us sit back and listen when they start going on, but it's very possible that they are onto something really cool right now (read 'thoughts' thread) You couldn't meet nicer people anywhere in the world if you ask me.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hello Hibiscus, AKA Gloria

Glory, this is the other Gloria I told you about. Great lady and I'm so glad she finally decided to come and stay at Daves. She is a wonderful trader and has lots to offer. Let's keep her busy.........

Hibiscus, I have to call you Gloria. I know the name is fitting for your username, but to me.....just Gloria. Hope you are having fun and will talk to you later tonight.

Hello Hibiscus,

Hibiscus(the other Gloria)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You all know that we're the normal ones don't you? It's everybody else that's nuts.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Hibiscus, do I know you or is there still another Gloria?

Calla,
Are you confused honey? Hibiscus is also a Gloria.
Glory...which is me....is a Gloria. Should I call myself Biloxi Glory. LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I think she's looking for yet another!! LOL!

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Welcome Hibiscus..good to have another brug nut here

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

There is yet another Gloria that I know that is a friend of Brugie, or is Hibiscus her? Hey, I stay confused. I colored my hair blonde so I would have a good excuse, but my DH says it only made things worse.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala,

Hibiscus (Gloria) is my friend. So is Biloxi Gloria. So at this point, I think there are only two Gloria's. We can keep it straight though. When in doubt, I'll just refer to my friend from Ohio as either Hibiscus or Ohio Gloria. As Glory said, we could use the Biloxi in front of her name, just another way to keep these two straight. I know that I've been confused before, so what is a few more times.
:-) :-)
