Here begins 2001

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I wish all members here on DG, a very happy, healthy, peaceful and a wonderfully GREEEEEEN 2001.

I returned last evening from my tour to Nagpur - the 'orange city'. Orange and Nagpur is synomymous. They have made a statue of the orange on a road there. I've bought a few home. It's a city that is almost in the center of the country and 32 hours by train from my place. I had been there to play Cricket for my Organization and I'm happy to share the good news that our team won all the matches including the final. I was instrumental in all of them. I performed a rare "hat trick" in the final. I wont delve into details for the simple reason that I presume that most on DG are not aware of the terminologies of Cricket. It was a very happy feeling nevertheless, to end the year on such a high note.

In my week-long absence, my DW has not watered my Bamboo- grass properly and it seems to have dried off. I have hopes that the roots may still be alive and may throw up new shoots.

WHAT AM I DOING HERE? HASN'T ANYBODY NOTICED THAT I HAVE WRONGLY PUT 2001 INSTEAD OF 2002? HABITS DIE HARD, ISN'T IT?

Congratulations on your sucess in the matches. I do not understand the game but I do understand the satisfaction you must be feeling at a game well played. Happy New year to you and your family!

Dinu there are a few of us here who understand cricket and the spell it casts on it's devoted fans. As an ex-pat I know it very well as I used to keep score for our local village team. You are surely delighted with your play and are to be commended!! Well done, don't worry about the grass and Happy New Year to you too :-)

Louisa, I took six wickets each in two matches for 12 and 19 runs respectively. In the other two, I got a total of 4 wickets. The interesting thing is that I bowled out 11 batsmen (batters) out of 15, had three 'lbws' and had one batsman caught - I am a fast bowler whose weapon is the "in-swing". In that "hat trick", I had all three bowled.

I say old Bean! And I thought they only played cricket in Merry Old England. Congratulations on your success' Dinu.

Dinu, Congratulations!
Have a wonderful 2002~

That was some going Dinu - almost incredible!! I would think India is even more stuck on cricket than England - they surely always seemed to work harder at it!! Pays off, doesn't it!!! :-)

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I thought Cricket was the sound I heard in my garden on a summer nights eve LOL - congratulations on the game

Dinu

Well done! The Indian and Pakistan national teams really have England beat. As a child of 10 I used to live opposite the Hampshire county cricket grounds and the lady upstairs and I would watch the cricket for free :) I never did get around the terminology like sticky wicket and silly mid on etc.

Cricket is still a popular game and played almost worldwide.

Thank you all. Baa, how I wish I were you! So fortunate to have lived near a cricket ground. Cricket terminology can drive a lay may crazy if he tries to understand their meanings. There are certain fielding positions like 'third man, long leg, short leg, silly mid-on, cover, point, ...'.

Once an old English lady (innocent about cricket) was listening to the cricket ball-by-ball commentary on the radio when the Australians were touring England. They were telling that Lindwall (Aussie bowler) has two long legs and a fine leg.... She wondered and wrote in the paper "what kind of creatures these Australian cricketers are?"

Joshua Tree, CA(Zone 8b)

Dinu, I know nothing of cricket! Is a cricketer anything like a Mouseketeer?
I am glad you had a good game.
As far as getting the year wrong, dont feel bad, I will doing it for months! Especially on my checks!
I think the New Year will be a calmer, more successful year.
(just a feeling)
I wish a Happy New Year in return!

LOL Dinu

Ahh Louisa yes village cricket, so genteel in appearance on lazy summer afternoons on the village green but the rivalries are just as bad as any other sport LOL
