War on Dirt!

Hamburg/Pinnebog, MI(Zone 6a)

With all the wars going on (War on Terrorism,War on Drugs,War on Warmth,War on Poverty,War on Taxes,etc.,etc.)I am in favor of starting a "War on Dirt"!

I mean it's everywhere,on your boots/shoes,clothes,truck/tractor/car tires,on your garage/barn floor, kitchen floor,in your carpet,on your pets/animals,in your hair. My God! it's even in the woods/fields/yards and adults and children alike work/play/sit/dig in this menace. We have to stop this increasing infiltration of DIRT into our lives. It doesn't go away, you clean and clean and clean and still it comes back. We have to get our government to step forward and make new laws regarding this issue. Maybe the government could issue all citizens a "National Dirt Identification Card", at least then we would know where the dirt was coming from. This DIRT is a menace to society. We should be check for DIRT before boarding airplanes, before it gets into the engines or something. We should have to remove our clothes and pass under a irradiation system to sterile us and our clothes. At the Canada/Mexico borders we should have arm guards to stop anyone who would even think of smuggling their DIRT into our or their country. NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!! should be our War cry.

Having lived on this limestone ridge for 12 years, I will happily let you dump all your soil here. You don't even have to pay me, just pull up with your truckloads and unload anywhere. No color is rejected here, be it brown, or yellow or black or white. Or Georgia red! As long as it's dirt, bring it on. You can take rocks with you when you leave, if you wish. Just leave me piles and mounds and loads of real soil, honest to goodness corn growing dirt, down to earth earth. Thank you one and all!

Tom, it's all semantics, I mean, there's "dirt" and there's "dirt". Let us consider dirt as opposed to "soil" - a much regarded substance. And dirt vs. "mulch", life giving-growth encouraging-moisture saving. "Dust" has several interesting connotations - it can be "dirty," it can be pesticidal, it can be life and death and return. Consider Pigpen from Peanuts and his monologue in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on the historical significance of his little cloud of filth, the very dust of ancient civilizations bestowed upon him by time and his propensity for collecting every little dirt molecule in his vicinity.

With all of the turmoil and trama out there, let's consider dirt our friend and co-conspirator in life and if you must rid yourself of it, place it gently out in the wilderness and let it be one with all nature and the life force.

Tom - LOL! I was just thinking this morning - the ground is frozen. There is snow on the ground. Why the heck is there so much dirt in this house?
