My resolution is to not smoke another year. I quit last year; January 1st 5.30am... put on ten pounds but it's only fat, it won't kill me ;)

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Mine is similiar, have to lose the weight or face more problems. Keep in closer contact with my family and friends-when I first became ill, I cut off most of the contacts and to get my life priorities in order. I think I had better start early!!!!!!!!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

HoniBee, come with me to the nonsmoking section of davesgarden, and we'll make plans to help everyone quit... John

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

My resolutions are many but the main ones are:

1. loose 140 lbs.
2. help everyone i can to quit smoking
3. spend more quaility time with my kids
4. finish what i start
5. have a great planting and harvest this year

I'm like Gardenhubby, study my bible more.
Also put my faith and trust in God
more than i have ever. I listen to alot
of Joyce Meyer tapes. They seem to help
me out alot. Practice more violin to be
able to overcome my shy side of playing
in public and not to sweat over the small
stuff.Amen.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Mine are:
1) lose at least 50 pounds
2) quit smoking
3) learn to be more patient
4) like GH, study my bible more, rather than just here and there

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ditto on my hubby. Definitely want to lose 100lbs in the coming year. Ten down, just ninety to go! I also want to cut back on my time on the computer and get back into my artwork and music. And I want to start walking for my health and for my doggy. I've been following the path of least resistance and, though sometimes quite enjoyable, it's not fruitful or satisfying in the long run!

Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

LOSE ABOUT 10LBS AND TO QUIT SMOKING WHICH I KNOW WON'T HAPPEN!

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

I hope in the upcoming year I can keep a previous one that I've found relatively easy to achieve so far. Do at least one act of kindness a week. I know I should quit smoking, but realistically I don't see that happening so maybe I should make a resolution to keep track of how much I spend on cigarettes during the upcoming months. Then start a notebook keeping track of all the things I'd like to buy, but can't afford. I bet I'll be surprised when I see what I could have had at the end of the year if I didn't smoke. Yes, I think I'll make that my resolution.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Carol, too funny you brought up the cost factor. dh came over to the desk last night, as i was puffing away : ( and surfing through dg. he started futzin with the calculater and informed me that when both of us were smoking it was costing us $5200.00 a YEAR!!! now that hes quit, its only $2600. a year. he then went on to tell me how much we would save/have a vacation/pay off the truck/buy a harley/put that 2 caret ring on my finger and on and on.
if i didnt love him so much i think i wouldve hit him. it was another wake up call to me that i do need to stop.
my nyr
1. stop smoking
2. have more patience with my kids
3. pay the bills before they are due (we have the money, i just dont pay them on time, strange huh? )
4. continue to organize
5. finish projects (im a true gemini)

John,
Where is the no smoking part of DG? Looks like there are more of them than us. I could not believe the cost of cigs.
They are almost $3.00 a pack. Gosh if you all quit you could each send me $10.00 a week and still save money. :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

HoniBee, Carol7, too hysterical. My parents started saving several hundreds a month when they quit smoking. Too bad it took my dad getting colon cancer to finally break his addiction. Now that several hundred a month is going to drugs to help keep him alive... Best of luck to all of you in your quitting efforts. I know you've heard it before, but - it really does improve your health to stop (besides improving the pocketbook) - and I REALLY like y'all a LOT, so if you quit smoking, maybe we can all grow really, really old together hear on DG! (ha! so easy for me, a non-smoker, to say, huh? ;-)

My new goal, since I turn 40 this year, is to keep my mind and body as young as possible. I've started walking and doing ballet excersises (alone! NO mirrors! in BAGGY sweats!) to tune up my body... went back to school and will continue this semester so I can limber up my mind a bit...

The continuing goal from THREE years ago is to Pay The Bills, Keep The Faith, and Plan The Big Move (back to rural life and The South). T-minus two years and counting. Phase I complete, Phase II in progress...

And, of course, I could stand to loose 10 or 40 lbs! But I'm starting with a reasonable goal - to loose ONE lb, first!

Take care, everyone! Many Blessings and Good Wishes for the New Year to you!

Karla

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

My goal is to loose 60 lbs, drink lots of water. I quit drink any sprite or coke or any soda four weeks ago.. I am going to keep it up. Spend more time with kids. I am non Smoking.. Yeah cuz I am allergy to them.
Happy 2002 Year!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I think my new year's resolutions are going to be as simple and non stressful as I can make them so I hereby resolve to try to spend as much money as I get my hands on next year, to gain at the very minimum 5 pounds, to laugh every chance I get--------seriously, I really am going to resolve to stick with some kind of good exercise program if only to walk for 30 or 45 minutes each day. For years, I was convinced that putting the clothes from the washer to the dryer constituted a regular exercise program since I did make an effort to bend from the waist during the process, but I am seriously going to walk every single day cause I not only think it would be good for me but for my husband who will do it with me.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi Roz. I love your sense of humor. Good plan. And for all of you who want to quit smoking I wish you success. That and weight loss seem to be at the top of most people's lists. My list includes doing a better job of housekeeping, and finishing projects I have started. And when gardening season starts I need to keep ahead of the weeds this year.

No resolutions for me "the guilt factor" when I fail is too high, lol' Good Luck to all of you though'

Plymouth, MI(Zone 6a)

The twenty extra pounds has to go! A smile for every grumpy person I encounter! Enjoying every second of every minute of every hour of every day! Getting the courage to get on chat because my typing is so slow! Last but not least Making a raised rose garden. Happy New year to a really super bunch of beautiful people!!!!!!!!! Meems

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I never make them!!! Just want to spread a little more sunshine around this year :-)

I only ever make one, to not make any resolutions other than this one, it's the only one I know I can keep. I hate to break a promise, even to myself.

Cordova, MD

My resolution is not to make any!!! And do you realize how hard that is????? Talking about breaking bad habits!! LOL!!! -JSS

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

I should learn to eat proper meals. Seems like there is never enough time to cook for myself and sit down to a meal. (I love to cook). It's easier to grab a bite from the refrigerator every time I pass by. I'll try to change that, and I'll try to get my decorations down before the end of January!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

HoniBee, you are right, I think we are outnumbered... Here in NJ a pack runs almost $5, I wonder where all that money is that I don't spend on smoking??? I guess it is hiding with the money I saved by NOT going to Ireland this year. Oh well, pull up a seat, and fan that smoke away from us while I tell you my resolution: to actually write one of the books I have been "gathering research" on before the papers take over the entire house. Happy New Year! John

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

here in australia cigarettes are $15 per pack!
I dont smoke myself but other family members do...

resolution?? hmmm
well, I feel a little lost of late.. dont know what i want, where I am going and why...hmmmm hubby says its midlife... I think he should understand a little better...

God? well he and I are on thin ice.. long story..boring... a little painful....
so my new years hopes, more than a resloution is to try and find happiness... it must be somewhere....maybe under that old rock or in my garden.... wanna help me find it? and maybe my smile too while we are at it... misplaced that as well!! :0)

Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

LAURA, IHOPE YOU FIND YOUR HAPPINES. SOME TIME YOU JUST HAVE TO LOOK REALLY HARD. I HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR! WOW $15 A PACK I THINK I COULD QUIT IF I HAD TO PAY THAT MUCH!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

dont worry... I know its somewhere....
your right.. takes time.... just have to look harder!!

yes.. i am glad i dont smoke!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Well I haven't made any the last several years as I can never keep them so why the dissapointment? Laura I can't imagine you ever losing your smile.
