What Gives???

College Park, MD

Okay, I'm not a computer whiz, so someone please explain something to me. I started my have list on my member page here. I typed in shrubs first, then perennials, then fruits and veggies. I did each catagory in alphabetical order. When I checked it, my entries were all mixed up in no particular order. Why does this happen? How can I put them in order?

Well, I know the list sorts by "trade only" first, then "trade or SASE".......but as for the rest of it, maybe somebody else can shed more light on it for you!

Hi DJ - mine show up in alphabetical order by common name. At one point I saw mine were broken into two different sections of alphabetization. In some entries I had typed an extra space before the common name - that was my problem, although I don't see it explaining the way your list appears to be organized. Dave?

I checked out DrJohn's list. It looks like it is working normally...

The sorting is, by default, sorted by the Availability. So "Trade Only" items will appear at the top, then "Trade or SASE", and then so on.

Click on "Common" and it'll sort the same list by common name.

click on "Category" and it will group and sort them by the category.

Does this make sense?

Whoops, you're right. Does this sorting occur only when you have viewable entries?

Yes, if there is nothing to view, then there's nothing to sort. Is that what you were asking? I need more coffee this morning.

I agree with Dr.John.

I'd prefer it if you could have it show up for everyone in alphabetical order of Latin name, and they could click the Common Name header if they wanted to see it that way.

It's not in alphabetical order unless you click the header. We had this discussion once before.

While we're at it, I find it a bit irritating that the first letter of the second line is further out than the first line (i.e. the first line is indented). I tried typing extra spaces in, but it didn't want to know. Is this deliberate, or is there a technical reason that's beyond me?

Mary: I've fixed the second part of your question.

Thanks Dave,

I'll just pop over and have a look.

Got to stay on-line - only 2 to go!

No - NONE TO GO!

1000 members (wish I knew how to make this in HUGE NUMERS!)

CONGRATULATIONS, DAVE!
