Do American Beech Trees hang onto their autumn leaves throughout their lifetime?

Hello Tree people. We have a young Beech tree in our backyard and enjoy its leaves until almost March. I read they do this while "young". Is this true, or do they hold onto their leaves (until Spring) throughout their lifetime? Thanks!
